The catechism actually has a lot to say about these matters and then there are the encyclicals and such.  So much guidance that often goes unwanted, unnoticed and unheeded.  Wow.  I am going to start reading this stuff.  I was having a discussion with a couple of beloved Catholic friends of mine this week.  And we were talking about rules and one of them, a young man, made an observation something to the effect that Catholicism had rules but they had a lot of sound reasoning behind them and were therefore compelling and disconcerting.
