When will The New English Mass Start?

Probably sometime next year. Some are saying it will probably happen at Pentecost, others think at the beginning of Advent.

Yes, I’ve seen several announced. Here is an excellent one written by a member of this forum.

I believe we will. The new translation pays much more attention to the original Latin text and the actual meaning of the words, allowing the Church’s doctrine and intent to breathe forth once again in the liturgy.

Precisely in its fidelity to the original text and attention to doctrine.

Here in Australia our parish leader attended a training session about the changes last week at which it was stated that the Australian Bishops had decided against a Pentecost implementation and would be looking at sometime later in the year.

We are talking about Advent 2010 or 2011?

I think, John, that there are a lot of Catholics that would like to see it happen this year, but it probably won’t. I’d say Advent of 2011. This will give time for new missals (altar missals, pew missalettes and personal missals) and educational materials to be published and for the congregations to be educated on the new responses. So I think that, beginning this coming Advent, you will hear a lot about the coming changes, but you won’t actually see them for another year.

There are three general things I have to say about the translation:  it is more faithful to the actual Latin text of the Mass (and to the doctrine contained therein), it is more faithful to Scriptural quotations and allusions (thus increasing our familiarity with the Bible), and it is a more elevated tone of language.

I think it will help in restoring a sense of the sacred and sublime to the Mass.

As David pointed out, I have a book (the first in a series of three) on the new English translation.  The series is entitled "Praying the Mass", and the first book is "The Prayers of the People".  It deals with the words and actions of the congregation at Mass.  The second book (due out around October of this year) is "The Prayers of the Priest".  The third book won't be out until sometime next year, "The Eucharistic Prayer".

I was just asking about the timing of the changes at church yesterday. I've heard a lot of good things about this. I look forward to its implementation.

Thanks for the first name, Bill.   Smiley

Marcus is a special gentleman, a calming presence but one calling others to courageous action.  Because he experienced the anxieties and sacrifices of the journey, he speaks with authority.

God bless,
Becky

I was raised Catholic, and had left the Church when I moved out.  I've been back since my brother passed away last December.  I watch Marcus weekly on EWTN.  If I miss the live version, I watch a encore presentation.

This past weekend I figured out how to watch EWTN (along with some other video) on my HTC EVO 4G running Android 2.2.

I just learned that the Mass is officially changing Advent 2011 from an email from Oregon Catholic Press, who had a link to the US Council of Bishops.

There is an ad for the DVD if you want to order it, or you can watch it online.  http://www.becomeonebodyonespiritinchrist.org/
