| There is a 27 yr old woman I know who is a single mother of 3. She is pregnant again. Looks like "dad" is out of the picture. She is planning on having an abortion. She and I were very good friends for a long time, but have not spoken in 2 months. (heard this news through a reliable source) Pretty much anything I was to suggest she would probably do the opposit to spite me. So I am asking for prayer and the Lord to either allow me to be in her life to help her through this time, or rise a godly woman up to help her. Not only with this baby, but with her other children. I will admit she is in a difficult situation. Her other children are very difficult and she is struggling financially. I would love to tell her she has options, but not sure the best route at the moment. Anyways, please pray for this baby who has no voice.

| Esther, I have her baby on my prayer list now, and her other children who need nurturing and a stable environment. You are a good friend to care after she hasn't spoken to you in so long. I pray also that your friendship will be renewed, and that God will enable you to help her in whatever way would be needed, and would glorify Him. God bless

Esther,
Please see to it that someone tells your friend about Gabriel Project, it is a national catholic crisis pregnancy outreach that I am involved in. Have her call 1-877-734-2444 and the operator will line her up with a Gabriel "Angel" (like myself) in her area,to meet with her and get her all the help she needs from drs she can afford, to diapers, clothes, high chairs, beds,to food, gas card to get to appt.s, women willing to help with her difficult children, adoption services if that's her choice, free ultrasound, prayer, conversation, etc. The list goes on and on and on!! No one has to feel alone anymore!!

May God's peace wrap around this woman and give her a heart of true love for her baby. Please Lord, let her see the preciousness of this gift and help her to do the right and holy thing. Be with this baby, Lord, and hold it. Amen.

Rick,
Gabriel Project can be found at gabriel.com. We get referrals from billboards placed near abortion clinics, as well as bumper stickers that say Pregnant? Need Help? Please call 1-877-734-2444. We get referrals from churches, individuals, and organizations that know of us like Crisis Pregnancy Centers, for example. Gabriel is Church based and run by volunteers. I'm in IN and we get a lot of support from our parish and the Knights of Columbus. Of course you don't need to be Catholic to get help...so far in my experience no one has been. For me it is a way to put my pro-life beliefs into action. Many times these girls just feel like their is no alternative to abortion...no one who cares and no way to figure out what to do first or next. Any parish can start a Gabriel Project and hopefully someday every parish will!!
We will pray for this overwhelmed mom considering abortion.
God bless,
Maria

I would like to use this thread to air a concern I have. When I was growing up the word abortion was hardly even spoken, it was considered taboo when "taboo" meant just that. Sex before marriage or outside of marriage was "bad" and "bad girls" did it. That was the extent of my knowledge of why abortion was wrong. It was a culturally and socially moral wrong. It went without saying that it was considered a sin because it was killing an unborn child.
Later on, as I married and had my first child in the 70's, things went on in the sexual revolution and the world at large that began to change my mind. I looked at my little girl and wanted to protect her from evils in the world. I fell first for the notion that abortion would be acceptable in the case of incestual rape. Then just rape. Then the life or health of the mother. Then it went on until I became convinced that women had the right to do what they wanted with their bodies. I didn't think that a bunch of old white men in a judicial chamber should have the right to make a woman carry a pregnancy she didn't want to. My moral judgement was carried along with the times because it wasn't rooted in the spiritual teachings of the church. I wasn't seeing a pregnancy as a little soul, I was seeing a little glob of tissue, what is called a fetus by doctors.
I hate now that I thought that way. I know now thanks to the teaching of the Catholic Church just how precious each conception is, precious to the mother and father, precious to the world, and most of all precious to Jesus Christ who knew that child before the world was formed. We need to do whatever it takes to make the world see how wrong this is. I was fooled into a bad way of thinking and I know people nowadays are thinking what I did. Each of us must speak out about this, there are many organizations around to join and support. I hope Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body teachings will make huge changes. Please pray for unborn babies.

Marsha,
You said that your moral judgment was carried along with the times "because it wasn't rooted in the spiritual teachings of the church." Perhaps this is true for you. But one thing you must consider, there are many pro-life agencies out there that are lead by and founded by Protestant Christians. I know this, because yesterday, I was looking for a prolife agency in my area that is specifically founded by and conducted by Catholics. I had a very difficult time finding one. Most of the prolife groups in my area are Protestant in nature. And they are very strict in their teachings against abortion.
With that said, I must agree with you that the Catholic teaching on respecting and honoring life at all stages in much deeper. Protestants don't have the Theology of the Body. They don't have the Church teachings which speak against invitro fertilization and all the other methods used to procreate. They don't have the teachings on the danger of contracepting. Truly, the Catholic Church has made great strides in this area.
Darlene

| I agree that there are many protestants working against abortion. I remember sitting in a Sunday School class when a petition against it was circulated and I didn't sign it because I still felt a leaning toward "pro-choice." I was still thinking that an unborn baby was not really a person, was a few cells of tissue. It wasn't that the protestant church didn't talk against abortion, they said it was wrong, they said it was killing an innocent child. But I wasn't hearing the important part about it being a soul. It wasn't until I began studying catholic teachings that it came home to me, that a soul for Christ begins at the moment of conception. And that's what hit me like a ton of bricks and changed my opinion. All of the talk about why contraception is wrong, about being open to life, put it into context for me. In the protestant church, I was only hearing a cultural or social taboo. There are a couple of prolife agencies here. I don't know if they were founded by protestants or catholics, but all churches support them. We have a couple of Sundays each year when they leave baby bottles in the pews at our church, and people take them home to put money in and bring them back the next week. Next Sunday our city is having a pro-life demonstration along a busy road in the city. All churches, protestant and catholic will participate. Hi again, Marsha,
I think I know what you're talking about - that 70's thing. I was in high school - a Catholic High School - during the 70's. All this (abortion and birth control) was new and "innovative". It seemed "easy" to think the way that society was leading us. And as a young woman, I don't think I was really mature enough to look at the eternal ramifications of such thought. I learned about and understood the pablum that was spewed out to us at that time, and accepted it, unfortunately. However, as I matured and began thinking for myself, I learned of the horrific misinformation they were feeding us at the time, and how distructive it really was (is)! Do not blame yourself for the "initial" opinions you may have had. I believe that God leads us to HIS will, in HIS time. And, when that happens, we begin to see the reality of our world around us through the eyes that HE wishes us to see through. In my humble opinion, I believe this is all a part of "Lord, I trust in YOU". When we place ourselves in HIS care, He will show us the way!
Lisa

Lord of the Powers be with us, those who have had an abortion or ever considered it, for in times of distress we have no other help but You. Those who have judged without love, bring healing to their hearts, and for all fathers of abortions, heal them too, that they may proclaim to the world the power of your love.
Lord of the Powers, have mercy on us, thank you for the life of this little one, may she be pleasing to you throughout life.
