I am in the mortgage industry which has been doing very bad lately and my wife was layed off her job and we are moving to Biloxi Mississippi. My wife's family live in Biloxi and they are willing to be very supportive till we get back on our feet. We have a four year old son who is mildly autistic who will be around his cousins who are about the same age and they are really looking forward to seeing him.
I have never lived anywhere but Southern California and I am a bit nervous. Pray that this will not be so nerve racking for me.
Thank you,
Keith

| Keith, my prayers are with you and your family. I pray the move will be easy and you will find provision for your family in Biloxi. As the grandmother of an autistic seven-year-old, I know this transition can be hard for him. Keep us informed, and God bless

Having moved 28 times in 40 years I offer you and your family the following:
Do check out the web (http://www.masstimes.org) for Catholic Churches in The Biloxi area. Make contact / visit if you can. Select a Parish and get your Family registered. Get engaged in the Parish activities as soon as you can. We found the Parish as our anchor wherever we lived be it Diamond Bar, Newberry Park and Thousand Oaks CA or Essex, Surrey England or Ohio, New Jersey, Florida or now Texas.
I envy you in that you will be around family, we never had the opportunity to do so.

| I am in real estate- I know how hard the market is. I also have a son with autism so I know how scary the thought of leaving the therapists and support people that you know is too. I will pray for you and your family.

You'll love Biloxi. It's a beautiful southern city with lots of hospitality, and a pretty strong Catholic presence. It's also not far from New Orleans, so you'll get to be a Saints fan! Biloxi also has Mardi Gras parades and some of the other "overflow" of South Louisiana culture.
And you'll be mere hours from Acadiana if you ever get the chance to really check out Cajun Country.

Thank you,
Biloxi is a nice area. I am friends with Tim Staples and he has given me some information on the Catholic presence in the area. He sent me some links and gave me a couple of good pointers for getting my family involved.
I am also a World War II reenactor and have already spoken to some good guys down in the south that do reenacting and they are pretty happy to get a new G.I. aboard. I am feeling pretty welcome already.
Thank you very much.
Keith

Are you also a veteran, by chance? Keesler AFB is in Biloxi so you would have access to the BX. Casinos and Hurricane Katrina have changed the culture there, but it really is a nice Southern town that's about half creole and half redneck due to the fact that it's located halfway between New Orleans and Mobile. It has fabulous beaches and great restaurants, too, and is only about an hour or so from Louisiana. That means you'll be closer to God's country than ever before, and as long as you keep away from the hurricanes, you'll love it.

Yes actually I am a vet and so is my wife. Her Father was stationed at Keesler before he retired from the Airforce. My wife was an Officer in the Army and I was a NCO in the California State Guard/Army and was stationed at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base California. My wife actually thinks that she has a job at Keesler starting on October the 1st and although my MOS was 46Q which is PAO (public affairs) I volunteered alot for security work at Los Alamitos for special events. I spoke to the Security personnel at Keesler and they want to interview me for Security which would be contracted by the military. It's not my dream job but at least the pay is not half bad and I will have money rollling in right away until the mortgage industry begins to pick up again, which from what I have heard should be doing so by the second quarter of 2008. But you are correct in that Biloxi is a very nice little beach town, although I have not been there since Hurricane Katrina but my wife has. She said that they have really gone all out to get the coast fixed back up pronto. I guess that I will have to hang up my surf board for awhile unless I can get to the Atlantic from time to time and take up jet skiing. Which will cost a little more then surfing, but it's still alot of fun. I guess that there are some places in Florida where you can catch some good waves and in South Carolina too. I am going to keep my surf board and kind of hunt around to see where I can find some waves. Thank you so much for your comments and pointers. I really do appreciate it. I think that I have to keep looking at this as an adventure. God Bless, Keith

| Keith, don't count on any big waves in S.C.! It's a great area to vacation in, relax or play golf or fish. But it's not known for good surfing. But it does have some prime real estate!

Darn, Is there any surfing in Florida or along the Atlantic at all? I think that I remember when I saw the movie "Endless Summer" they found some waves in Florida somewhere. I don't think there are any in Savanaugh. Again I may have to trade my board in for a jet ski. That may just have just have to do I could also be up for some prime real estate too
