Hi,
I have never posted a prayer request on the internet before, but I am having an incredibly hard time today, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people here, so here goes...
i am having surgery this morning to repair a detached retina. I've had life-long problems with my eyes, and a detached retina in the same eye in 1998. This past June I had a cornea transplant in that same eye because the first retina surgery damaged it. I am terrified of surgery--particularly anesthesia. Also, the recovery from retinal detachment can be very painful and will require me to lay face down around the clock for several weeks. Laying down for that long is hard enough, but FACE DOWN? (Last time it was on my left side, which was manageable.)
At the end of all this I don't know if the retina will stay attached, or if the cornea transplant will still be in good shape. Plus, I have four kids and homeschool the younger two (9 and 10). I am worried about their care and education during my recovery.
Anyway, though I've been praying constantly since I found out about the detachment, I keep having these waves of terror. Please pray that God would help me feel His presence, that He would guide the surgeon (who I just met yesterday), and that He would give me the strength and peace to accept whatever outcome He desires.
Thanks,
Dede

Dede,
I am sorry to hear of all these sufferings. I am going to log off right now and pray a rosary for you.
May God envelop you in His tender mercies,
Becky

Dede,
In case you haven't left yet for the surgery--
I have finished a Rosary for you, as well as other prayers that you will
have peace and calm and feel the presence of the Blessed Mother and
of our Lord.
I had eye surgery yesterday (much less serious). It helped me to pray for others during the procedure.
Offer up all this suffering and anxiety, Dede. I'm going to be faithful
in praying for you. Wish I could come and care for your kids and sing you
some soothing hymns.
Peace, dear sister, He loves you so very much.
Becky

You have all of our prayers, Dede, including the thousands who visit this site and never post. God will take care of you. You are in the palm of his loving hand.

{{Dede}} I pray it will all work out for you. And don't you worry about those kids, they can baby you for a couple days. Just invest in a good set of earplugs, that way you won't hear any of their help (also known as bickering in this house, lol). IRT school, you are allowed to take time off for that. You know that, right? Don't stress over it, your kids will still be learning while you recover, even without worksheets.
Feel better!!

I would probably feel the same way as you. I have never had surgery and the thought of it seems terrifying to me. I have remembered you in the Divine Mercy prayers. Our God is the God of mercy. I pray you will sense His mercy throughout this process, and that whatever suffering you go through (hopefully as little as possible) will somehow bring glory to him and help to all of us in the church, and that you will find peace.

| Dede, I have just logged on and seen your post, but I will pray for you and include you in my rosary intentions tonight. Take care of yourself, and let the children learn some good samaritan lessons now. I pray your pain will be lessened and you will feel the presence of God. I pray for strength, hope and comfort for you, God bless

| I am so sorry that you are having to go through this time of trial with your eye problems. A couple of years ago, a tear was discovered in the retina of my right eye. Thankfully, an opthalmology professor at a local medical school was able to repair the tear using a laser. So far, I have not had further problems with it. Anyway, during follow up visits, as well as while waiting for the surgery, I became aware of a number of people with various serious eye problems and my understanding was that they were all going to recover and be healed. It is marvelous what God has shown human kind we can do with medical procedures nowadays and especially in treating disease and conditions of the eye. I pray that God will heal you, both through the physicians and through His healing touch and power, and that God will provide for your family needs as well as grant you peace and strength to go through this time. May God richly bless you and watch over you and heal you!

| O Lord God Jesus Christ, the Life and strength of all that put their hope in You, Whose mercies are numberless, and the treasury goodness that is infinite, we give thanks to You for the blessings which You have bestowed on DeDe, and we humbly beseech You to continue Your goodness toward her, healing her completely. As You have been well pleased to restore us to our bodily health, so do imbue our souls with all the heavenly graces, perseverance in good works, and prepare us by Your blessings in this life for the enjoyment of eternal happiness in the Life to come. For to You are due all glory, honor, and worship, as also to Your Eternal Father and Your All-holy Good and Life-creating Spirit, both now and forever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Hi,
I just wanted to thank everyone who responded, and everyone who prayed for me. I had surgery to reattach my retina the morning of Nov. 15th and have had to be face down 23 hours a day until yesterday. I still have to be face down most of the time for two more weeks, but can be up a few hours a day now.
The surgery was a bit frightening because I had a bad cold which meant anesthesia was out of the question. (They did give me a quick acting narcotic while they gave me injections in and around the eye to paralyze and numb the area.) Otherwise, I was fully awake. The face down part could have been a lot worse, but I had a lot of great CDs to listen to. I have gone through 18 Father Corapi CDs, a 10 disc series by Christopher West on the Theology of the Body, 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings for this Jeff Cavins bible study I'm in this year, and two novels my sister brought me which can be classified as nothing more than entertaining dribble. (something I normally never have time to indulge in.)
Anyway, this whole experience has given me plenty of quiet time to pray and study, so quite honestly I have to say it's been at least as much of a blessing as a trial. Since there is a gas bubble in my eye holding everything in place, it is impossible to tell yet if I will regain any vision. It takes about two months for the body to make enough fluid to replace the bubble, so I would appreciate continued prayer when you think of it.
Thanks,
Dede

Dede, thanks so much for the update. I've been wondering about you.
It sounds as if you have been a very brave and upbeat lady. Hang in there.
I will continue to remember you in prayer.
Becky

| Dede, what a terrible experience to have to go through. But it's wonderful that modern medicine has many options and there is good hope that you will regain use of your eye. We will continue to pray for your continued recovery and a miracle of restored vision. Have hope in the Lord. God bless
