In my native Bristol, Virginia is a college called Virginia Intermont College (http://www.vic.edu).  The college has been in existence since the late 1800s and has had a relationship with the Baptists of Virginia.  For many years, they were a high school and junior college for women, however, in the early 1970s they became a four year, coeducational college, regionally accredited by the way.  They had seemed to be doing fairly well until this past spring when the suddenly announced that they were having severe financial problems and might have to close in the next couple of years.  Some financial contributors have "propped them up" financially for the next year, but they could still close.  Their campus is located very close to St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bristol, Virginia. St. Anne's is a fairly large Catholic Church and has a Parochial School which goes from Kindergarten through the Eighth Grade.  There has been some talk of St. Anne's Catholic Church founding a Catholic high school and using one of the Virginia Intermont College buildings, leasing it from the college, to get the high school started.

I would be grateful if you might kindly pray for Virginia Intermont College, that it will somehow continue to be used for the purposes of Christian education either at the college level, at the high school level or both.  If Virginia Intermont College cannot survive financially, please pray that the Roman Catholic Church will somehow take it over and use it for Roman Catholic Christian purposes. I have felt that if not used for a college, it would be an excellent place for a monastery or convent or perhaps a Catholic retirement home.  Thank you for your prayers.

O God, our help in time of need, Who are just and merciful, and Who inclines to the supplications of His people. Look down upon Virginia Intermont College and have mercy on them and deliver them from the trouble that now besets them. Deal with us not according to our iniquities, but according to Your manifold mercies, for we are the works of Your hands, and You know our weaknesses. I pray to you to grant Your divine helping grace, and endow patience and strength to endure these hardships with complete submission to Your Will. Only You know our misery and sufferings, and to You, our only hope and refuge, we flee for relief and comfort, trusting in Your infinite love and compassion, that in due time, when You know best, You will deliver them from this trouble, and turn  distress into comfort. We then shall rejoice in Your mercy, and exalt and praise Your Holy Name, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen

My sister graduated from Virginia Intermont College and I took some courses there so we get alumni correspondence from the college.  Recently, the President of Virginia Intermont College sent out a letter to alumni saying that they have been getting a lot of financial contributions, recently, and they are fairly sure that the college will survive.  Thank you any who prayed for Virginia Intermont College!  Obviously the prayers helped!  I still wish that Virginia Intermont College would develop a relationship with the regions Catholics such as by allowing a Catholic high school to be established on campus.  Anyway, thanks again for your prayers!
