Hello!  I am new to this forum and have a prayer request.  I am praying for the conversion of my father-in-law (John) and his wife (Roxie) to the Catholic faith.  They are both devout Christians who truly have a zeal for the Lord. However, I would just like for them to be able to come into the fullness of the Catholic faith so that they can experience fully the faith the Lord has handed down.  I want them to be able to receive Christ in the Eucharist.  I also think the Catholic Church would benefit from having these two amazing people in its fold.  We need people like them!!  They are of the “Once Saved, Always Saved” camp.  They are not anti-Catholic for which I am grateful.  She may have been at one point, but I think that through our example, we have shown her that Catholics love Jesus too. :)  I think that they do believe that we think we must earn our way to Heaven.  She has “snuck” in little comments such as “It is not Faith AND Works, but Faith THAT Works.”

Roxie is an avid bible reader and hosts women’s bible studies in her home.  She also teaches Alpha classes at her church.  As much as my husband and I have researched our faith, we don’t have bible verses memorized and I tend to get tongue-tied when it comes to defending my faith.  I get so nervous, that nothing comes out right.  I always pray that the Holy Spirit will take my imperfect words and change them so that she hears them as I intended.  We have resorted to “slyly” evangelizing thru Christmas gifts.  2 years ago we gave her Scott Hahn’s “Understanding the Scriptures” which she professes she loves and uses when she teaches.  I don’t think she has gotten to the New Testament yet, and when she does she’ll probably freak out when she sees all of the Catholic references :P  Last year we bought her Scott Hahn’s “Gospel of John” CD set which I don’t think she has even looked at.  My husband and I joke that she was probably scared off when she read the back of the box which referred to the Gospel of John as the most Catholic of all the Gospels. This year, we stuck with a secular gift, so as not to scare her away :)

Anyway, please pray for the conversion of these 2 amazing individuals and also for me to have patience and put all my trust in the Holy Spirit that he will grant my prayers.  Patience has never been my strong suit :?

With Love in Christ,

Lisa

May the Lord grant this request! Many people here will join in this prayer, I'm sure.

Thanks, Dave!  I have to say I am a little "star struck" right now.  I love your book "A Biblical Defense of Catholicism".  I will admit that once I tried to strategically place it so that my father-in-law's wife would notice it and maybe pick it up, but I don't think I placed it well enough, as it went untouched :P.  I bring the book with me every time I visit their house in case something comes up and I need to refer to it.  It is a great source and written so that "normal" people can understand!  Unfortunately, we haven't gotten into any "substantive" discussions which have required me to refer to it, but I still read it for my own enjoyment and education.

Thanks again for your prayers!!!

Thank you, Becky!  I saw in your profile that you are from Kentucky, which is actually where Roxie was born and raised.

Thank you again for your welcome and the prayers. I feel so happy now that I have more people lifting my prayer to Heaven.

Tenderness springs forth from you, O Theotokos, make us worthy of compassion. Look upon sinful people, reveal your power for ever as we hope in you and cry aloud: Hail! as did the Archangel Gabriel, Chief Captain of the Bodiless Powers.  Through your intercession bring all those being prayed for here into your Son's Eucharistic/Sacramental Church. Amen.
