My son Michael does not believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and so has not been attending mass for several years. He is tobe married in May to a lovely girl, but she is not Catholic. Time is running short to be able to have a Catholic priest present. I am asking for Jesus to break through Michael's blindness and restore his faith in the Eucharist, thus desiring to bring his fiance' "home" with him.

Hi Mary Beth,

Your posting leads me to think there may be some long-standing problems in the family communication system. You did not mention your son's age, but it is possible that church attendance is part of his struggle to feel like an independant adult. My suggestion is to NOT "push". Instead, keep your relationship on a positive note and pray that as he matures he will remember and  realize that there is something missing in his life.

I pray that your son returns to the Catholic faith and has a sacramental marraige that reflects the love of Jesus for His Church. You might consider giving him a book describing the journey of a protestant convert to the Catholic Church. These books usually cover Catholic teaching on the "real presence", baptism and marraige in great detail and contrast it with the novel theologies of our Protestant betheren. If your son presently has no interest in his salvation then he will not read the book. If he is concerned, he will read the book and probably come to understand the truth in the one, holy catholic and apostolic church. For starters I recommend "Rome Sweet Home" by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. It can be purchased at CHN Resources

May Our Lady, Untier of Knots, come to your assistance.

Holy Mary, full of the presence of God during your life you accepted with great humility the Holy Will of the Father and the legacy of your Son Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Evil never dared to entangle you with its confusion. Since then you have interceded for all of our difficulties. With all simplicity and patience you have given us example on how to untangle the knots in our complicated lives. By being our Mother forever, you arrange and make clear the path that unites us to Our Lord. Holy Mary, Mother of God and ours, with your maternal heart untie the knots that upset our lives. We ask you to receive in your hands Michael and deliver us from the chains and confusions that have us restrained. Blessed Virgin Mary, through your grace, your intercession and by your example, deliver us from evil and untie the knots that keep us from uniting with God, so that once free of every confusion and error, we may find Him in all things, have Him in our hearts and serve him always in our brothers and sisters. Mother of Good Counsel pray for us . Amen

You might go to http://www.catholicity.com and get the free CD titled "The Mass explained" by Fr Larry Richards.

THe following is a description of the CD from the web site:

The best explanation on the Mass ever recorded, featuring the True Presence in the Eucharist, the amazing Untold History of the Mass, and a nuts-and-bolts "Walk-Through" of the Parts of the Mass. Whether you attend Mass regularly or not, your sacramental life will be enriched immeasurably. A powerful, proven tool for parish education programs, from First Communion prep to RCIA and beyond.

Mary Beth if you could see me as I was in 1970 and then see me as I am now, you would ask, in wonderment, "IS THIS THE SAME PERSON?!"  Sometimes young people have to go through a time of questioning and then they eventually go back to the way in which they were raised.  I pray for your son and his intended.  May God bless and guide them.

I will pray for your son and his finacee, Mary Beth.  At some point in time, I think especially when children come along, a couple realizes that they need to instill values in their child.  St. Francis Xavier once said, "No man ever really finds out what he believes until he begins to instruct his children."

Marshall, thank you for your post as well as my oldest (24) is trying to figure out how she's supposed to live in the world but not be of it.  She doesn't get that she's supposed to *avoid* near occasions of sin.  :(
