I just learned that a friend's son is serving in Afghanistan with the National Guard.  His tour of duty is supposed to be up in three months, and he is getting married in July, so they are hoping the tour of duty won't be extended.  He has told his mother that it is bitter cold there, and the fighting has slowed down because the Afghanistans don't have warm winter uniforms.  The snow is up to his waist in some places.  Please pray for Jason's safety and that of his group (platoon?) and for all who are fighting and defending us.  And please pray that he will not have to postpone his wedding!  Jason and my son grew up together and attended many activities together at the Baptist church we attended.  When my son was baptised family and friends were invited to come forward and light a candle for him, and Jason did so.  He is very special to us.  Thank you

I will add Jason to my prayers, Marsha.  I understand how hard it is to watch someone go out to war.  My brother is currently serving in Iraq, but he is due to come home (or at least be stationed once again in the U.S.) in about two months or so.  I can't wait for him to be released, I miss him so much!

"Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping Jason, his platoon, Kayla's brother and all the men and women of our Armed Forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them (and protect them); and give them a sense of Your abiding presence wherever they may be, through Jesus Christ our Lord! AMEN!"

Thank you Marshall and Kayla.  I will E-mail Jason that prayers are being said for him and his platoon.  And Kayla I pray for your brother too.  I'm sure you are very proud of him for serving his country, and yet anxious for him to be home and safe.  I agree with Marshall we should always remember to pray for all our armed forces home and abroad.  It's easy to get wrapped up in our lives and forget they are out there defending us night and day.

I have a t-shirt that reads, "Thousands died for our freedom; One died for our sins".

Pray to the One; pray for the others.

Lord of the Powers be with all of our service men and women wherever they are, for in times of distress we have no other help but You.

Thank you all for the prayers!  I just received a call that my brother is currently at the Iraqi airport awaiting a plane that will bring him home!

Being an uncle of a young Army officer also serving in Afghanistan, I, too share your desire for spiritual assistance and you have my prayers as well.

God Bless and keep you all and our relatives serving in combat.

S.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, into your hands we place our soldiers, surround them on all sides with an abundance of your holy angels, that they are protected from all harm.
