The Mount community here at my college is in desperate need of prayers.  In the past week there have been many tragedies and the campus as a whole is struggling.

First, please pray for one of my fellow students, Dustin.  He is a senior and he is on life-support as we speak.  It is feared that he will not make it through the night.  Three nights ago he fell from the fourth story of one of our balconies and suffered major head injuries.  He was not found until 20 minutes after his fall.  Please keep him, his family, and our community in your prayers.

Second, this evening another student has had somesort of medical emergency and has been taken to the hospital.  We do not yet know what the complications are, but do know that it is serious.  We do not yet know who the student is.

And lastly, one of my history professors has been diagnosed with brain cancer.  He went through brain surgery on Friday, but the type of cancer he has is very serious and moves quickly.  His future is uncertain.

So, I ask you all to please keep our community and these special intentions in your prayers.  This is a difficult time for everyone here on campus.

Kayla, I am sorry to hear about these tragedies and will add these needs to my prayer list.

Will you be able to go home for Easter?

Kayla,

You and your college will be in my prayers. As the father of a freshman attending a college in upstate New York  about to undertake an "externship" in Boston and live in an apartment  within the city, I shuddered thinking how much more secure I felt with her living in the inner city (well, right near Harvard Med School and Brigham & Women's Hosp) than on her own beautiful campus. It's been that kind of an atmosphere lately. I volunteer for my family's (Baptist) church which is right next to UMass/Amherst. We've already have had several scares for security reasons, and from time to time kids have hurt themselves grieviously or been accidently hit by cars going too fast.

Take comfort, however, in knowing that God will make good come out of it somehow and on some day. It's His call and all we can do is to hold on to Him like there's no tomorrow. Well, isn't that part of being a Christian, a Catholic Christian, no less? Our journey through life will get bumpier, we'll catch some flak, but what a smooth landing we'll have following life's turbulence!

God be with you and your college.

Steven

My heart goes out to the students and their families. It is never easy when tragedy or death comes upon us. May it bring all of them (and us), in closer union with our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The professor is in my prayers.

Kayla, go in the strength you have and, through Faith, He will increase it all the more. God's comfort and peace to all.

Kalya, I found a very interesting ESPN article on your friend Dustin and how the basketball team is playing in his honor.  I thought I would call it to your attention since it is an unusually respectful article for a sports report.

Christ my Lord, the Giver of light and wisdom, who opened the eyes of the blind man and transformed the fishermen into wise heralds and teachers of the gospel through the coming of the Holy Spirit, shine also in the minds of these students the light of the grace of the Holy Spirit. Grant tehm discernment, understanding and wisdom in learning and all their undertakings. Enable them to see you in all circumstances and  to complete their assignments and to abound in every good work, for to You I give honor and glory. Amen.
