Dear friends,

Please pray for my husband and for me.

I have been praying, for months now, that my DH would be offered a certain job at a wonderful Catholic parish in South Carolina. He has indeed been offered the job and we both love the parish, the pastor and the city.

I have a real fear that he will waver once we start telling people at the church we are at now about this move. They will be universally shocked and he will face hurt feelings, much criticism and mockery. I am generally thought to be financially and personally rather daft by many of his friends, having stubbornly converted to Catholicism in spite of their advice to stay in the Episcopal church. When they find out he's not only come with me but has found a new Catholic job 1000 miles away.....oh, boy.

So far he has not had to deal with this because they all think he's still an Episcopalian (albeit with a very wayward spouse.) Now the rubber meets the road so to speak.

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

Lisa

Prayers from me you have.

Continue to be his support and encouragement. Continue to tell him he is making the right decision. Continue to tell him that in the end it doesn't matter at all what "those" folks say or think.

God's Blessings,

I will certainly pray for you!

I have encountered opposition by friends and family for continuing in the Catholic Church.  It does hurt sometimes, but one day when I was thinking about this I was reading in Jesus' passion about Pilate's frustration in condemning Jesus.  Ultimately, he allowed it to happen to "please the crowd."

This got me to thinking about who it is that I am trying to please.

Who we should really be focusing on, of course, is our Lord.  Then I thought of our Mother Mary, St. Joseph, my deceased relatives, and all the angels and saints (which is quite a crowd!).  This is the crowd we should be worried about pleasing!  This is the crowd that's on our side!  This is the crowd that prays for us and with us every day!

This has helped me many times when I get one of those "looks" or rolling of the eyes from someone about something I say that's too "Catholic."

Hope this helps!

Lisa this is wonderful news.  Believe it or not, I have actually watched for a position with you in mind, in our catholic miscellany that comes every week, but they are always part-time it seems.

I guess people are going to wonder how he remained in the present church and yet searched for a catholic position!  This will be a walk through fire for him, you will have to encourage and support him in all ways.

Texas' loss is our gain!!

Lisa, you and your husband are in my prayers. Let him know how proud you are of him. He really needs you right now. Little surprise notes of love and admiration (to be discovered inside a sock or taped to the bathroom mirror) might be a good idea.

God bless,
Becky

Dear friends,

Your prayers are helping. He is almost ready to take the plunge....just a little nervous but I think he is doing better than I first thought. I should have known!

:waving:Marsha: I'm hoping to meeting you one of these days! SC is so beautiful, even better than I expected, and I am excited about finding a new home.

....BTW, how is the little guy with the migraines doing?

Lisa each time I have read your post, this come to mind:
Lamentations 3:
21 But I will call this to mind, as my reason to have hope: 22 The favors of the LORD are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent; 23 They are renewed each morning, so great is his faithfulness. 24 My portion is the LORD, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25 Good is the LORD to one who waits for him, to the soul that seeks him; 26 It is good to hope in silence for the saving help of the LORD.

Not that you are to hope in silence, the Lord has already gone before you and made the way.  Go with confidence that God has already taken care of your anxities and concerns.

What part of South Carolina are you heading too?

Dear friends,

I'd better not say exactly where just yet, although the choir from our new parish has probably figured it out anyway. It's "upstate." He has definitely taken the job now (Praise the Lord!), but wants me to wait a few more days before going public, so to speak. He needs to have a talk with a few people at his job here.

They will be upset, and I may be blamed, but that can't be helped. Actually it is my "fault," because I urged him to check it out and follow up with the pastor; so any blame I do receive is fair enough --and well worth it! ;)

Thanks again to everyone for all your support, encouragement and prayers. I love y'all!

Lisa

Wonderful!  You have been hoping and praying for this for a long time.  I'm really so proud that you like S.C. and are looking forward to moving.  I think it's a little slice of heaven.  Well, maybe I'm prejudiced, but no more than Cajun Rick is about Louisiana!  I'm looking forward to the summer!  Now I've got to run up to the catholic bookstore and see if they know who's getting a new music director!  But I won't give any names or details, promise.

Also, my littlest one with the migraines has been better.  They are not as frequent as they had been for awhile.  Thanks for asking.  God bless

Well, now, this seems totally unfair that Lisa and Marsha should be meeting each other and enjoying sweet fellowship together before I get to meet either of them. :D

It is indeed wonderful news, Lisa. I'm thrilled for your family.

Marsha, how wonderful to hear that your grandson has gotten some relief.

Blessings on both of you,
Becky

Hey, some of you other folks don't live very far from Greenville....maybe I will get to meet you too!

Marsha, I don't think you will have to ask at the Catholic bookstore....it won't be long before you find out anyway, probably by this Sunday.;)

:waving: Hi Lisa,

Well, SC wins, the "People's Republic of Massachusetts" loses out.

Great choice for you and I think you'll both feel more at home, even though your husband's from RI. Coming up here from Texas would be such a culture shock on top of all your other challenges, and you don't need to face people who can sometimes be as cold as the winters they live through.

May God's Blessings be with you and your family in your new move to SC!

Prayin' n' pullin for y'all!

Steven :D

Thanks everyone.....getting ready to move is a huge deal but I am so excited.....I don't care how much work it is. They will be announcing it at the church next Sunday where he has been working. The choir has taken the news well since we told them last Wed. at rehearsal.

Our last evensong was last Sunday. It's like solemn vespers with a lot of music. We will do at least 4 more Sundays but not Evensong. That has been our best service each week. We have been to Westminster Abbey 3 different years, and sung Evensong there, but this was just as emotional as that.

DH has lined up an excellent interim music director and is trying to make everything go smoothly. It looks like the choir can still go to England next summer and everything. So far nobody has made a big fuss about us "going to Rome". They don't like to think about that part of it. One guy said (not to us, to a friend) "You'll never hear music like that in a Roman church," after Evensong. When we heard about it I just laughed and said "You will in South Carolina.";)

Or, the Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts.

We could use some of that REAL Old Time Religion music up here, too.
