Thanks to ya'll for the prayers.  We had quite a trip!  It was a little too fast and we (meaning I!) didn't get to do everything we wanted.  Tip #1: Don't spend the night in Cullman if you want to attend 7:00 am mass at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville.  I had a 5:30 wake up call and still got there 10 minutes late and missed mass.  But I did walk around and see the Stations of the Cross outside while I was waiting, and there is the most riveting lifesize crucifix near the stations, with the body of Christ completely covered with lacerations and bleeding, it looks real and so moving.  After going inside I was able to pray the rosary with the nuns, saw Deacon Bill, had confession with a well-known friar, went down to the lower church and prayed, and spent way too much money in the gift shop!  Then I drove back to Cullman to pick up dh from the hotel and we went to the Ave Maria Grotto, which is spectacular, don't miss it if you ever go there.  Even my dh was impressed, and he was prepared not to enjoy anything!  After lunch we drove to Irondale and visited EWTN.  I was surprised at how small the chapel is, compared to the way it looks on TV.  But it is more beautiful than TV, and there is a palpable sense of holiness there.  We went on the tour of the studio with Fr. Louie(?) and he has always been a favorite of mine to watch, he is so humble and kind always.  If you ever have a chance to visit the Birmingham area, go!  The mountains and scenery are gorgeous, the people are friendly, and there are lots of good places to eat.  We did get to eat at the Golden Rule Barbeque that Fr. Pacwa talks about, and let me tell you, it was good barbeque!

All in all, it was a learning experience.  I would like to go back, now that I know where everything is, and how it all works.  I could make a better spiritual pilgrimage instead of tourist trying to find everything.  But it was a true blessing that I got to go at all and I am thankful.  God bless

Marsha, I prayed faithfully (even lit candles) for you and your husband.
How wonderful to know that you are back safely, had a good time, and that he responded positively to some things.

I kept studying the persons attending the EWTN chapel Mass, trying to spot someone who might be Marsha. :) What were you wearing? Colors? Did you wear glasses? Are you tall? A couple of times I felt pretty confident I had identified you until I realized those ladies were with men who were receiving.

I appreciate the tips you shared.

We missed you on the forum. It's been too quiet around here.

Grace and peace,
Becky

Oh Becky, I wish I could have been one of those you were watching!  I tried to get to the 7:00 am mass in Hanceville, at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament, but I was a little late and didn't want to disturb them, so I waited outside until it was over.  Then I went in and stayed for awhile.  But the mass you were watching comes from the EWTN studio and chapel in Irondale, which is about 60 miles away.  We went there later in the day, but mass was over for the day.  We did go into the chapel for a little while for adoration, which is a novel idea for dh!  He is a real bull in a china shop, can't sit still for two minutes, or be quiet!  But he was curious about it, so I take that as a good thing!  Thanks for your prayers, I know they were all around us as we travelled.

I envy (in a Christian manner of course, ha, ha ;)) your trip!  Glad you two got back safely! Did you sing "Oh Susannah" and come back home with a banjo on your knee like Annie asked above?!

Nope, we weren't singing.  I was gripping the edge of my seat and pushing my right foot into the floor as dh drove like a bat out of h_ _ through Atlanta, missing one exit and having to get off the interstate, circle around, get back on, and then exit again onto the right interstate!  Then we got off at the wrong exit for the BassPro Shop and drove forever on the frontage road looking for it.  But we did find a good oldies station :dude: !

My, I agree. That is very encouraging.

God bless,
Becky
