My brother Martin is a member of and regularly attend's St. Anne's Catholic Church in our native Bristol, Virginia. He tells me that the parish is discussing possibly having to close St. Anne's Catholic School because there has been a decline in enrollment due to the economy.  Please pray that Catholic families in the Bristol, Virginia/Bristol, Tennessee region will see the importance of sending their children to parochial school and that they will support the school with their patronage and their financial gifts. Please pray that those who have the financial means, in that area as well as elsewhere will learn of St. Anne's Catholic School, in Bristol, Virginia, and provide generous financial gifts and scholarships to help keep St. Anne's Catholic School in operation.  The church, itself, seems to be doing fairly well but the school is in danger of closing.  Thank you for your prayers for them.

It is so sad to see our Catholic schools struggling.  It is a huge sacrifice to send ours to cCatholic school and over the 4years that they have been gooing to the high school the population has shifted to about 40% Catholic students which di cuase a crisis this year. There was a strong push to make it a private school vrs. a parochial school. The Bisop threatened to call the ( large) note due if the school was pulled out of the Catholic system. I was having a fit earlier in the year. However the school has come back with a stronger Catholic identity and those 40% of Catholic parents made it pretty clear that we weren't sending our kids to the school for a private eduation but for a CATHOLIC one.

PS: Perhap some of the high costs are due to the fact that most of the school hire heavily from the lay sector since there is a shortage of religious  people to teach in our schools.

Any chance that the fast growing Dominican convent in Nashville's also getting their Sisters credentialed for teaching? That might help? You better move fast before Marshall "drafts" a few "Tenn.Volunteers" wearing Habits for duty in SW Va! :D

Bishop Loverde in Arlington, VA diocese beat them to it.  The Nashville Dominicans are staffing the brand new high school in the diocese.

Our kids attended St Rose Academy here in B'ham, taught by the Nashville Dominicans.  Expenisive!  But you can't beat the education they get, it is the best in religious schools in the area.
