I have been trying to get deeper into prayer without going off into things which can lead us astray like "centering prayer." I have found the EWTN series by Fr. Gawronski on the Ignatian Exercises to be helpful. Reading the Ignatian Exercises themselves is futile because it is written for the spirtual director. But these tapes contain very practical advice on prayer, especially on how to do a "colloquy" or conversation with Jesus or the Blessed Mother.
There are two tapes in the series and also a book that covers some of the same material. I use both in tandem. And combined with other sources on lectio divina it seems to work very well.

I was skeptical at first because of the reputation that Jesuits have nowadays but find the laid-back, yet orthodox presentation to be helpful also.
I am going on vacation for a week in July and intend to make it an Ignatian retreat of sorts.
