For people who might remember me from last year on the older forum when I had a lot of questions as I debated with my reformed calvinist pastor. (I'm SURE Juan remembers.) Well, here is an update and a link to my Amazon list of books that helped my husband and me. Thank you to all those who answered my questions last year!!!
Catholic Books for Seekers
We left the Reformed church in June 2006. In October we received a nasty letter of excommunication from the pastor. This past Easter vigil my husband was accepted into the Catholic Church. I am a 'revert' and so have been taking communion in our local parish since summer 2006. Our priest loves our 'convert/revert' energy and wants us to teach a class on the early church fathers this fall!
None of our children have joined. They do attend with us most Sundays but were affected /offended by the excommunication and its accusations.

Oh yes, I remember you, Marylynn, and your debates. That was fun, but kind of futile, as you saw from the “nasty letter.” We welcome you back, especially since you come bearing an armload of good books.
Glad to hear that your husband was able to make the trip with you. It’s too bad your children were adversely affected by the accusations in that letter. Perhaps later on they will come to see how little of it was true.

Marylynn,
What exactly did the pastor say in his letter of ex-communication? Was it written by him alone or did the entire church stand behind the letter as well? My husband and I were members of a Reformed Baptist Church (believed in the 5 points of tulip) and several months ago I asked the pastor to write me a letter of recommendation for a particular job, which he did do. To his credit, he has been very kind and patient to our son, who has deconverted from Christianity altogether. But I know that just lurking beneath there is an anti-Catholic attitude.
