| I know merton is one of those guys who got to be in some questionable directions toward the end of his life, i am just wondering about my favorite book of his, new sees of contemplation. I have read it a few times and it upsets me to know that merton did not seem to stay as completely safe in his writing, but i am hoping that that book is not considered too dangerous. a lot of it is really helpful and inspiring to me. is there anything to look out for if i recommend this book to someone else who i think it would be good for?

That book is just fine, Brian. Feel free to use it and recommend it.

I really liked his autobiography, Seven Storey Mountain, as well as his journals. I would recommend either (some discernment is necessary in his later writings). I found these much more readable than New Seeds of Contemplation.
