| I want to recommend some good reading now that Advent is approaching. It is the gospel of St. Luke, the Navarre Bible edition. I have it as a single volume, paperback, and the comments are wonderful. It is appropriate for Advent and then for Lent, as the story of our Savior continues. Each page has a small portion of scripture at the top, and then two-thirds of the page is commentary.

Just for curiosity, why Luke? The upcoming Lectionary cycle is A, which features Matthew. If we're going to concentrate on a particular gospel, wouldn't the one featured in the Lectionary be a better choice? That way the Sunday readings would match the text, and we could spend the year with the notes on each Sunday's gospel in preparation for the priest's homily.

| I picked this book up last year, read the nativity portion, and put it down to read other material. So I have it on hand, and am looking forward to reading it slowly as the liturgical seasons pass. I like the nativity story by Luke, not that reading Matthew would have to be excluded.

| Are you suggesting an ongoing discussion of each week's gospel reading? I think that would be a great idea.

The Navarre series of commentaries is excellent. I bought the entire New Testament when it first came out in the 90s. If I had the money, I’d have the rest. Maybe someday.
I think a regular series of threads on the Sunday readings is a fabulous idea. A few previous threads on the meaning of those passages and the various homilies encountered have proved both popular and informative.

Please do this for us. This current thread has a name, however, which isn't likely to grab others who might also want commentary on Sunday readings.
