I began reading St. Francis de Sales' book yesterday, and I can't put it down (The Catholic Controversy). He writes with passion and fire, deftly addressing each argument of those following the ideas of Luther and Calvin. I wish someone had witnessed to me in this way when I was a Presbyterian! If anyone else picks it up to read, I would recommend skipping all the introductions, including the one de Sales wrote, and get right into his "tracts." Praise God for St. Francis de Sales' hard work in helping to win back tens of thousands of people to the Catholic Church during the late 1500's!

That's great ! He is awesome ! ( Forgive me, I'm usually not given to such hyperbole ).
If you get a chance, you might like to try the "Sermon In A Sentence: St. Francis DeSales", Ignatius Press.
Also, "St. Francis DeSales, St. Jane DeChantal, Letters Of Spiritual Direction", - Paulist Press, Classics Of Western Spirituality Series.
( I can't always recommend things from Paulist Press, but that one is a gem).
There's also a book of letters of his published by Sophia Institute Press.

| Jane, you probably already have a copy of his Introduction to the Devout Life.

No. This is the first de Sales book I've read. I'm looking forward to reading more of his writing. Thanks for the suggestion!
