I bought and read Shane Leslie's ghost book. It was a real page turner! Just the right balance of spooky and explanation. I had always doubted the standard evangelical line about all spooky activity being demons as it just didn'y fit empirical evidence and this gave some much more satisfying thoughts on the subject.
So the question is....What other books on the subject can anyone recommend. While I enjoy the theories, I want some good true spooky stories too.

Becky I like ghost stories too. I can't think of any recommendations though. I end up reading the 'true' ones like the haunted that plague old hotels and cemeteries.
Have you ever read the story of the Wizard Clip? if you Google it, you'll find the stories. The books are out of print still I think. That started out as a 'haunting' of a family that ended up in West Virginia. Among the annoyances borne by this plagued family were their belongings being cut up into tiny pieces - everything from petticoats, to saddles, to the coats of visitors. After enduring this and looking for help from everyone including Protestant ministers, the head of the family had a dream in which a person was identified as the one who would help them. The man eventually came across this person on a street. This person turned out to be a Catholic priest who did relieve the family of these frightening annoyances.
Also involved in the story was a Voice who taught the family the Faith. The Voice identified itself as a person in Purgatory sent to teach them.
There is a theory that the problems for the family started when they took in a stranger who eventually died in their house. This stranger requested a priest as he died. Being Lutheran, the family did not honor this request.
Today, the property is known as "Priest's Field" out in West Virginia. There is now a retreat house there. The family left the land to the Catholic Church. About 20 years ago, the heirs requested the return of the land because the Church had not honored the stipulation of the inheritance - that the Church would use the land. At the time, there was only an abandoned wooden chapel there. My mother rescued the old wooden Tabernacle from the nearby stream where it was being used as a table to cut bait! [We used to go out there and say the rosary and wander about the property.] So now there is a retreat house and church there. But those that visit there don't know this fascinating story.
Its a very interesting story if you can find it online!

Here's a great article about the Catholic view of ghosts, by Br. Ignatius Mary.
Peter Kreeft has written about the topic also.
