Monsignor Swetland (the interim-chaplain here at my school, Mount St. Mary's University) is apparentally doing a series for EWTN called "From the Heart of the Church" and next week they're filming the entire series here ON CAMPUS.

Now, for the REALLY exciting part (cue expectant music here)....

I'm going to be on two of the shows!!!!!!!!!!!

Show #4 and Show #12, which will be respectively:
The Role of Philosophy in a Catholic University
Athletics at a Catholic University

I'll be participating in a panel of about five people on each of the shows, answering questions and sharing experiences!  Whohoo!  I'm so excited!  Obviously the two were chosen for particular reasons: I am a Philosophy major who is involved with the philosophical society and an editor for the philosophical journal (Tolle Lege) here on campus, and I am a student athlete playing division 1 softball for the Mount.

Now, supposedly this won't be airing for, like, a year or so.  But STILL, how cool is this?

WAAAAY cool!  :woohoo:

Of course, we'll expect advance clips!  Meanwhile, you'd better :reading: until you tucker out  or else you'll find yourself :drowning:.  And don't forget :praying:.

We'll be waiting offstage to give you a :winking: and a :hugging: and maybe even a :nyahnyah:.

Then we'll all go out for :wantpie:to celebrate Kayla's debut!

Can the Today show be far behind?  :roflmho:

:dude: Wonder if Kayla will even talk to the likes of us after she gets to be a big star?!  Wonder if she'll give us her autograph?! Seriously, I cannot think of a better representative than Kayla as an exellent example of a Catholic college student and athlete! Who knows? Maybe she'll end up with her own show on EWTN! But, don't tell her I said that! ;)  By the way, suggestion to Marcus - maybe you should interview Kayla on the Journey Home program!

:) Additional note to Marcus - come to think of it, maybe you should do a Journey Home program in which you interview Kayla, CajunRick, both Daves, our Saint Becky the Intercessor and some of our other Coming Home Forums regulars!  Bet it would make a great program!  :D

Indeed he hasn't, but he used to be a lot more active.  Of course, I also know there are other reasons for his inactivity and he would participate much more if he could.

Of course, I assume that an appearance on TJH brings so much fame and clamor for speaking engagements, parish missions, writing assignments, etc., that there's just less time available for the forum.  And I'm not sure if Kayla is ready to be such a rock star.  She's gotta get her doctorate and win the College World Series first!  :woohoo:

I've often found that I'm at my best when I have no idea what I'm talking about, because then I have no choice but to turn it over to the Holy Spirit.  It's when I think I know what I'm doing that I get in trouble!  :needhelp::headbang:

:D Well, first, make a copy of Dave Armstrong's photograph, have it blown up and make it into a mask to wear!  Also, get an LSU sweatshirt and a Kermit the Frog badge to wear on it!  Then get a copy of "Catholicism for Dummies" and carry that with you!  Everyone will think that you are a GENIUS! ;):eyeroll: Seriously, I think that it will be obvious to everyone who sees the program that you are already very smart without any help from us! ;)

We don't want to SCARE the audience! That would be rather counter-productive . . .

Big night tonight!

Now I have a little more information than they decided to give me in the beginning.  It's not quite as cool as I thought it was going to be-- but that's okay, it's still cool!  I'll basically be a part of a five-student audience and we'll be brought into the conversation towards the end of the show asking questions and answering some as well.  But the "adults" are the guests on the show, lol.

:) I have no doubt that you will stand out in the audience and be very impressive!

By the way, a while ago my daughter and I were watching Wisconsin play Indiana in softball on one of the sports networks!  WHOA! Those pitchers were really "humming" those alleged "softballs" and those batters were doing some "hammering"!  Don't blame 'em for wearing helmets! Softball can be DANGEROUS! WHOA!

I'm sure you'll be brillliant my dear. :winking:

I just got an email from Residence Life, and apparently my Resident Assistant training is tomorrow night and goes until 8pm...so I'll be dashing over right afterwards to get ready to film "The Role of Theology at a Catholic University."  I can't wait to hear what they 'adults' have to say on this...all things considered.

Well, that was certainly a lot of fun!  It is so cool to see how these shows are really produced!  Very neat.

At any rate-- I was on the six-person student audience who, during the second half of the show, asked the four-person guest panel questions.  We had a few minutes to brain storm and talk with Msgr. about which questions to ask and what have you.  I ended up asking a question to do with praying to win competitions.  I was actually rather proud of my wording, lol:

President Powell, St. Paul tells us to "run so as to win".  As athletes, would you find it appropriate then, for us to "pray so as to win"?

Then he and the rest of the panel spoke about the topic.  AND THEN, randomnly, Msgr. spinned back towards me and said,

"Now Kayla, you play for the women's fastpitch team and as a freshman you have been asked to play a variety of positions on the field.  Is this something that you take to prayer?"

Wowa.  Hold up!  I was definitely NOT expecting that!  The audience wasn't supposed to be answering questions!  Just asking!  Luckily I was able to spew out a question and keep a straight face.  But dang!

It was a great experience, though, and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night's "The Role of Philosophy at a Catholic College".

The series looks to be a really good one.  I can't wait for it to come out!

Although, I must say, I've never felt so self-conscious and aware of facial expressions and body movements in my life!  Luckily our whole group got very comfortable and it was a pretty relaxed taping.  I guess a few of the other tapings during the day had a lot of nerves and retakes and what have you.

Good stuff!

This is very exciting, I'm looking forward to seeing it.  EWTN has been doing a great job with all the new series they have.

So the Msgr. threw you a fast one?  I bet he knew you'd do a good job, and it would be spontaneous and not scripted!  Good for you! :applause

He definitely took me by surprise!  Especially since usually the audience doesn't answer questions.  Oh well.  I guess I ought've expected it from him: I see him a lot as he's our chaplain.  I sacristan for him during the week and meet with him for spiritual direction once a month.

You know, Kayla, the first time I ever appeared on television was to perform for a cerebral palsey telethon.  I was scheduled for 3 minutes and I ended up co-hosting for 19 hours.

Maybe they'll let you be a commentator for the pope's visit!!!  :woohoo::nyahnyah:
