If you need a speaker for your parish, or are looking for good material on scripture especially as it relates to ancient Judaism, let me recommend Dr. Brant Pitre.

Here's his biography taken from his web site:

Dr. Brant Pitre is the Donum Dei Professor of Word and Sacrament at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, Louisiana. He received his Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, where he specialized the study of the New Testament and ancient Judaism and graduated with highest honors. He is the author of several articles and a new book, Jesus, the Tribulation, and the End of the Exile, which focuses on the eschatology of Jesus as the key to the origin of the doctrine of the atonement (Baker Academic, 2005). He is currently working on a second book on Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, a project which was funded by a grant from the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, founded by Dr. Scott Hahn. Dr. Pitre is an extremely enthusiastic and engaging speaker and has produced several Bible studies on CD and DVD, in which he explores the Jewish roots and biblical background of Catholic faith and theology. He currently lives outside New Orleans, Louisiana, with his wife Elizabeth, and their four young children.

He is listed as a Senior Fellow of Scott Hahn's St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, has lectured at Franciscan University, and has written for Lay Witness, the magazine published by Catholics United for the Faith and he is a very friendly, personable young man.  What he doesn't say is that he grew up in my parish, where his parents and siblings still live, and that he used to be one of my altar boys and religious ed students!

I would imagine that if I sat in on a conversation between Brant and Scott Hahn, I'd be totally lost in about 30 seconds.

I recommend his material highly.
