There are three Catholic musicians I can highly recommend.

Michael John Poirier writes music centered on God's mercy and love for us and often leads Holy Hours of Adoration of the Holy Eucharist during his concerts.  His information is here:  http://www.holyfamilynow.com

The other is Danielle Rose, a young woman who put together an incredible CD set with songs for each Mystery of the Rosary:  http://www.daniellerose.com

Sarah Hart also writes very beautiful music and did a collaboration awhile ago called "Daughters of God" with other women musicians.  http://www.sarahhartmusic.com/index.htm

What are some of your favorites?

John Michael Talbot. He has been one of the big influences that have drawn me towards the Catholic Church.

Of course, how could I forget John Michael Talbot?  He has done some work also with another musician Michael Card, who is also very good, although I don't believe he's Catholic (not yet, anyway!).  ;)

I used to have all of Michael Card's CD's and went to his concerts.  At the last concert I attended (with DH & a close friend who is also Catholic), he took up a special collection to send Bibles to the Catholics in the Philippines.  He told the crowd that Catholics in the Philippines aren't like Catholics in the States.  In the Philippines, they crowd around saint statues in the streets and worship them.  He told them that the Catholics in the Philippines need to be brought to Christ, and that the offering would send Bibles and support missionaries to the Catholics there.

We were very offended and left.  I have never bought his CD's again. :(

Anne

Edited to add:

Prior to this concert, he had dedicated one of his CD's to the Mother of God community which is a Catholic charismatic community in MD.  I didn't expect anti-Catholic comments from him because of this dedication.

This website broadened my horizons.  I didn't realize how many Catholic musicians are recording CD's.

Besides Mozart, Palestrina, Verdi and Puccini?

Hey, he's not a perfect exemplar of Catholicism -- but I love listening to Jimmy Buffett. Many a time when I was down, his music picked me up, and I'm not just writing about the funny stuff, the drinking songs, etc. But before some of us might get a little haughty here, I recall seeing a picture of a one Cardinal Ratzinger quaffing down a Mas (stein) of good old Bavarian brew. And you don't think there wasn't an umpah band in the back ground playing some tunes about the drunken bums who lost their their way back home and of course, that old favorite, "Roll out the barrels"?

(Oh, I know I'm gonna get it, BIG TIME for this. But at least unlike the Southern Baptists and many other "free church"ers, Catholics know how to have a good time and not take ourselves too seriously.)

Off to Margaritaville ... 'cause it's five o'clock somewhere ...... :waving:

I thought of him, too, but I read somewhere he's Lutheran...

Naw; Jim Cowan converted to Catholicism in the early 70s.

Good musicians all.  I would add Karl Kohlhase to the list.
http://k4communications.com/karl

Free mp3 downloads of all his music albums
Sheet music for choir and organ as well

He's been giving his art away for as long as I can remember and his talent and love for the Lord are outstanding.
