Is it available online or as a CD?  So far I have only found it in book form.

It’s available only as a book, Willis — a monster paperback of nearly 1,000 pages — because most of the material it contains is copyrighted. But it’s fabulous resource. That’s why I have it on my bookshelf: when I need the background on something in the Catechism, this is the place to go.

Everything in the Companion is available at the Vatican web site or in the writings of the early Fathers and similar sources, but you have to hunt down the references for yourself if you don't want to buy the book.

It is well worth having.
