I've recently been going to a study about the book of Daniel. It has been very fascinating and enlightening. The study was written by a Baptist, and I'm going to this in a Methodist church. I'm not having a problem with this. I am learning so much from a book I never had paid much attention to.
My question is this. I've noticed that some of the scripture references given in the study book and DVD are slightly different from the way they are numbered in my Bible. I know that the Protestants removed books from the Bible, but I didn't realize that the text of the same books would be so radically different. I'm not talking about translation, but numbering. Who did this and why? And why were the last two chapters of Daniel removed by the Protestants?

Parts of Daniel (the prayer of the men in the fire in Daniel 3, and the last two chapters) were only known in Greek, not the original Hebrew or Aramaic. The Protestant Reformation rejected such parts. So your verse numbers in chapter 3 are probably off half-way through.
The contents of the last two chapters are possibly not about the same "Daniel" as the rest of the book; nevertheless, the Church recognizes them as inspired Scripture.

You're welcome.
Also be advised that the NAB (if that's the Catholic translation you're using) has a tendency in some books to "correct" the order of some verses. A particularly notorious case of this is in Ezekiel 8-13. So many verses get shifted around.
