I'm doing my undergraduate thesis by comparing protestant, catholic, and mormon doctrines (as best I can) in 3 areas (salvtion, authority, God). My first section is on authority, and I managed to get the "legendary" sola scriptura defenses that James White always talks about (Whitaker and Goode).
I was just wondering if there are any written refutations of their work out there? Their works are "Divine Rule of Faith and Practice" and "Disputations on Holy Scripture".
If not, I'll just stick to modern day Catholic apologetics, but having some classics on hand never hurts.
I don't know if anyone has specifically set out to refute these works from a Catholic pespective.
But I do know that virtually all of the arguments for sola Scriptura are simply recycled, and they are all able to be soundly refuted. I've tried to deal with the best modern-day proponents of the sola Scriptura position, including Keith Mathison (whom I think does about the best one can do defending a falsehood) and James White. You can access my papers on the topic on my web page devoted to it.
