This bishop (one of The Church Fathers) knows how to refute the gnostic davinci code that even davinci did NOT believe nor invent.  : )   His famous work is called AGAINST HERESIES.  I did a paper on his "Proof of the Apostolic Preaching" for my Church History I class during seminary.

Irenaeus... bishop ... pastor and of a missionary ... and his writings... directed against Gnosticism, the heresy then spreading in Gaul and elsewhere.

A treatise in five books, commonly entitled Adversus haereses, and devoted, according to its true title, to the "Detection and Overthrow of the False Knowledge" (see GNOSTICISM, sub-title Refutation of Gnosticism). ...  scrupulous fidelity of which is beyond doubt. It is the chief work of Irenaeus and truly of the highest importance; it contains a profound exposition not only of Gnosticism under its different forms, but also of the principal heresies which had sprung up in the various Christian communities... source of information on the most ancient ecclesiastical literature from its beginnings to the end of the second century.

... written after the "Adversus Haereses", an ancient literal translation in the Armenian language. This is the "Proof of the Apostolic Preaching."

From Sep 05-Mar 06, I planned to select Irenaeus as my saint name for confirmation.  However, I finally selected St. John the Evangelist because while Irenaeus wrote ABOUT John 1:14, John WROTE John 1:14 (quoted in my "signature" block here).  I have a long list of other reasons I chose him too.
