I recently came across the objection of one of the Pope's tites: Vicar Of Christ. What does it mean exactly? The person I spoke with seemed to understand it as the Pope claiming to be Christ Himself, on earth.

Hello, Alan. Welcome to the forum. Your history looks interesting. You should one day tell us how it came about.

A vicar is someone who is deputed by the guy in charge to act on his behalf while he is away. A synonym would be “delegate.” The pope, then, is not Christ himself, but only his representative, and that only until our Lord’s return.

A synonym in a political sense is "prime minister".

Dave,

Thanks for replying...I have always wanted to talk to you.  I am aware of your website and look at it all the time, as I have for several years now.  Your website was one factor in my conversion to the Catholic Church.  So, I thank you for all your effort here.  I had not seen the page you referenced. I just glanced at it and will go over it thoroughly.

Thanks to everyone for responding.  As I suspected, the objection is much adieu about nothing.

David,

Thanks for your response.  When I get the time, I will post my journey to the Catholic Church.

Yesterday,Perry Stone on his program, implied that St. Augustine formulated the title " Vicar of Christ " when he wrote his ' City of God " to set up the replacement theology of  the Kingdom on earth because Christ had not returned when the Church thought He should have.

I continually pray for these  people that they preach the word without disrespecting the Church by impling incorrect information and leading others astray.  I was happy to see that John Hagee apologized to the Church through Bill Donahue for saying anticatholic things.

Usually these types of preachers give out good messages but, sometimes they are just weird.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your very kind words. I'm honored and humbled that the Lord used my blog in some fashion to help you on your journey. All glory to God.

And a warm welcome to the forum, too (if I haven't said that in another thread).
