What I am mainly missing is the wonderfully vertical otherwordly worship experience. The new worship style is very much horizontal in nature, focused on the congregation and the priest

I was reading the engaging thread "Restoration of the Catholic Church" and it brought to mind a couple of thoughts as I started my journey (as Marcus Grodi calls it).

1) When I first started listening to my local Immaculate Heart radio station (always on in our car) I looked at my wife and said, "How can this do us any good these people just seem to be just talking about themselves?" We heard; our parish does this and our parish does that, Vatican II said this or that, my marriage is over how can I get an annulment? There seemed to be more interest in procedure & ceremony than faith. But, we managed to hone in on the programs that talk about Jesus-God-Holy Spirit (ghost in my day) and have found much to learn.

2) My sister asked me once (she is an ex-Catholic) if I was going to become one. I was complaining to her that my religious education seemed to have been limited to "a guy lived 1900 years ago who claimed to know God and they killed him. So you better look out, it could be true". My answer to her was, "No, I don't want anyone to stand between me and God". Meaning, get in the way and muddle things up. Teach me, but don't grab my nose and drag. I do not think that the example Jesus showed was that the Sheppards should feed their sheep as a farmer feeds a goose for froi gras.

A thought as I continue my journey;

"All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people" (Rom 10:3)

Yes, I am aware of the authority Jesus gave to the disciples to help build HIS church. I am also aware of what He had to work with!
