Hello All,

I know of two St. Theresa's, one being "The Little Flower" from France. I can't recall the name of the other or where she was from.  Anyone here know?  So...how many St. Theresa's are there?

According to Butler’s Lives of the Saints (current to 1950), there are several. You know about St. Therese of Lisieux, also known as Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, or “the Little Flower.” The “other” famous Teresa is St. Teresa of Avila, also known as Teresa of Jesus. Then there is Teresa of Portugal; several Chinese Teresas, recently canonized martyrs; two other French Thereses, of the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne (there was a program last year on EWTN about this event); plus a number of beati, some of whom I believe have since become saints, such as Therese de Jesus Journet and Therese de Soubiran. Then there is one I know of who is not listed in Butler: St. Teresa of the Andes (Juanita Fernandez), a Chilean who died in 1920 at age 19 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1993. Finally, we have Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, who is well on her way to sainthood.

Obviously, Teresa and its derivitives are a popular name; it is one of the most popular Christian names after Mary, and this is why there are so many saints and beati of that name. Another notable fact is that at least five of the above Teresas were Carmelites.
