I have been giving some thought to who we will ask to be the godparents of the new baby when she arrives. As I just finished reading story of a Soul and seeing that her Godmother was her older sister. I was wondering if my oldest daughter could be the new baby's godmother? She was confirmed this past year but will only be 16.

Also I have no male lined up at all. The one man I had considered died unexpectedly 2 weeks ago:(. The only other candidate would be my brother in law who breaks out in cussing the minute he enters a church. He attended my 2 yr old's baptism from the outer entry and got so fretted he started cussing a blue streak, not our best option.

Your older daughter should be acceptable as long as she is a confirmed, practicing Catholic.  You really only need one godparent.  You can choose another person who is not Catholic to stand as a witness if you wish.

Your diocese may have rules that set a minimum age higher than 16, but the universal Church does not.

Also, if you should have someone else in mind to stand as a godfather, he does not have to be physically present.  Someone else can stand in for him by proxy.  Discuss these possibilities with your priest as there are different rules in different dioceses.  Frankly, if the man you have in mind curses and doesn't go to church, he shouldn't be a godparent anyway.  You'd be better off with a stranger.
