If I visited a church that spoke a different language and did not understand much about which prayers were being said when and was not sure if I was participating well, could I receive communion? How well would I have to feel like I was participating? Would it be enough if I just remained prayerful and tried to catch what I could and realized that the mass has taken place somewhere in the confusion?

Brian, by now you know, at least in a general way, the various prayers of the Mass and their assigned sequence. It is sufficient that you follow along as best you can when you do not speak the language in which the Mass is being celebrated, and as you say, just “remain prayerful.” In this way you are participating to the full extent of your ability, and God accepts it.

Yes, you may receive communion. You are Catholic now. The only other requirements are that you be in the state of grace and that you have the proper disposition. You are and you do. So go ahead and receive our Lord’s body, blood, soul and divinity with thankfulness.

David
