Due to my laziness last weekend on vacation we missed mass.  I will go to confession tomorrow.  But my question concerns my 8 year old son.  Is he obligated to confess to missing mass?  It was not his fault--obviously a child can't drive himself.  I would appreciate any pointers.

I believe you have analyzed the situation correctly, Beth: the fault was yours, not your dependent son’s. But you might explain to him why you are going to receive the sacrament so that he understands about the Sunday obligation and that it doesn’t stop being a grave matter just because you are on vacation.
