Hi all,

I had my marriage radically sanated in 2006. We were married in 1975. As I understand it, my marriage is canonically valid from when we were married, and not just from the date the sanation was granted.

Can it be said, then, that I have been in a Catholic marriage from the beginning?

I am applying for entry into my diocesan diaconate aspirancy program and one of the criteria is to be in a Catholic marriage for at least 5 years. I think I'm covered but just wanted another opinion. (Yes, I know, the folks at the Diaconate admin office will know but I am just doing some "legwork.")

Thanks,

Gene

Your understanding is the same as mine on this, Gene. The law is pretty specific that radically sanated validity is as of the original date of marriage, not (as with convalidation) from the date of the “fix.” You should be fine.

God bless.
David
