| So we were talking about attire on another thread and I had some questions. But I do not know if the topic should be moved to here, because, this more or less is about attire in general when in front of or near the blessed sacrament, whether at mass, or going to confession or adoration. David seemed to stress giving our best and being respectful. But where do I draw a line at this. I only have one suit. should I wear it every single week or time I go to church? How much of my best do I need to wear. I don't want to stand out from being immodest or too dressed up. And I happen to go many days to adoration, so should I dress up every single day of the week in case I decide to go? I mean, what occasions merit dressing up and how much? I do think we really should dress up more than I see at parishes (some more than others) but is it OK if we don't have a lot of nice things, to just try to look respetable and not anything too casual. like my jeans are the second nicest pair of pants I have. Should I wear them occasionaly to church, or wear the dress pants I have every week? Can I give God my, second best in attire, since I can't treat every day or mass like a wedding or funeral? And, what of the fact that we pray the rosary at home in our pajamas? I admit sometimes I feel like I should not pray when I am slooy before sleeping for example, but I think God wants constant communication, so we should not stop praying because we are in the shower, or sick, or whatever may be the case. I just hope looking nice is more a thing you are recommending for mass itself and other holy occasions, but I wonder about adoration, especially as it gets to be summer.

I once reprimanded an altar server for wearing tennis shoes to church when I had told him to wear his best. He ended up in tears, and his mother cornered me later. He had mowed lawns an entire summer to earn the money to buy those tennis shoes. They were his best. I had been judging him by my standards, when in fact he didn't own a pair of what I would call dress shoes. His tennis shoes had cost him three times as much as my dress shoes, and in his generation, this is what they wore when they wore their best.
There is a difference in what you wear when you are planning to attend mass and when you have the opportunity to attend adoration. Wear your best, not my best or David's best. Sometimes when I attend mass, I wear a coat and tie, and other times I wear a (Christian) t-shirt. But when I have a chance to drop in at an adoration chapel or at daily mass, I wear what I am wearing. It is always decent and respectful, but not necessarily my "best".
Basically ask yourself, "If Jesus was standing there, would I be embarrassed to come before him dressed like this?" If the answer is yes, then change. But never avoid attending mass or visiting the Eucharist because of what you're wearing.
Of course, if you've been working in the yard or playing football and you smell like a horse or a wet dog, that's another issue...

Brian, just go and purchase a couple of pairs of pants...khakis and a nice shirt, or dress pants, even your suit. I wear almost the same black pants with different tops every week. Noone cares but God. I feel funny to dress in jeans as most Catholics feel. It is respect for our Lord.
There was an usher once who had shorts on and I was upset. I think it's rude. You can just go home and change jut like I do and everyone else. It's only one day a week we can give our respect to Jesus. If you go during the week, I've seen jeans, but leave Sunday to Sunday best. Just like they use to do.
I once read our Blessed Mother told the visionaries of Medjugorjie she is offended how they dress for the Holy Mass and I don't blame her.
