One church I go to sometimes on weekdays usually skips over the gloria and the creed. Is this something that should not be done, or is it more optional on weekdays? And if it should not be skipped is it a reason not to continue going to this mass? I otherwise enjoy the mass and church very much.

Brian,

I know Rick or David will give you more info, but since nobody's answered yet (I'm on here pretty late tonight...), just to let you know, week-day Masses seldom ever have the Gloria and the Creed, unless they happen to be Holy Days of Obligation or something. You will also find that week-day Masses do not normally have a Second Reading, unless - again - it's an obligatory Mass or if it's a Feast Day. I'm not sure of all the why's and wherefore's (I'll leave that one for Rick, David, or someone else who's more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of Liturgical Practices)... I only know that this is common practice. Week-day Masses are not as intense and full as Sunday/Holy Day Masses and there's no need for concern here.

Brian, I’ll just confirm what Cheri said. Weekday Masses do not ordinarily include the Gloria or the Creed. This happens only when there is a major feast day (Feast or Solemnity) that falls on a weekday. Sundays, being equivalent to Feasts, require the Gloria (except during Lent) and Creed. So feel at ease.

David
