I think I have exhausitvely asked this for myself, but I have a slightly different concern this time. I still feel a little weird about it for myself though. For instance if I get invited to specific events or trips and I do not know if there will be opportunity to go to mass, I often shy away. I think this is weird because I personally believe that as important as the obligation is on Sunday that occasionally if one found oneself on a unique experience or trip that it would be understandable as to why you did not go to church.
Anyway, this time my concern is for my father who is a new catholic and gets much of his instruction from me. He is going on a cruise or something like that around alaska to site see and play some cards or something. Now I was thinknig about telling him to ask a priest for dispensation, or to confess that he missed mass before going to one next week. However, I think tht since he is away on a cruise and has other issues coming up with health that might make him be gone for a few weeks, well, I think maybe he really is not choosing to miss mass so much as getting away from life for a bit. So is this a concenr? Am I not doing all i can by telling him about the obligation in this circumstance? I kind of figured that to him it is not sin at all, and I am not sure it is either, so I figure why tell him since that may only make him less able to enjoy the trip? And if he does not know it is sin than it could not be a mortal sin becasue he does not have full knowledge of it or undertanding. So I almost do not want to tell him so he can simply enjoy himself and not worry about it or be as guilty. Does this make me guilty? Fact is, I simply do not know what to do, so how guilty can I be?

I am in a similar circumstance. I have a vacation coming up, my first in 6 years, my health is poor and I am driving two days alone. I may be in no shape to go to church my first day at my destination. I intend to tell Father at my home church about it and ask for a dispensation. He knows I have problems. I don't see why a dispensation won't be given in your case as well. Health issues always raise a red flag whether there is a vacation involved or not.
I will doubtless be recovered enough to attend weekday Mass the week I get to my destination. Once I missed Mass and Father gave me the penance of attending two weekday Masses.

PS- Stop feeling guilty.
The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.

well, the first week is not because of helath reasons, so much as that he is on vacation on a ship or traveling in a plane or something or just will not know where a church is. Then he gets back into town and may have to drive to an important dental appointment.
The thing is, he probably does not even know what receiving a dispensation to miss mass is, and neither do I really because I have never goten one. Plus since it is not for me how much should I be worried about it I wonder. maybe I should just tell him to go to confession when he gets back and discuss it with the priest just in case it was a problem.

| What about watching Mass on TV? Would that make you feel less guilty?

If one is on a ship, there's no physical way you can get to Mass unless there's one on board. One can easily mention that in reconciliation when you know there's a trip scheduled in the near future. For newbies, doing it like that will build a body of good thinking and practice within you for the future as well as you have the opportunity to discuss things like this with your local priest / deacon.
Mass is the center of the wheel that my scheduled life spins on, - unless of course there's an emergency. When I'm out of town anywhere, I've used -

God bless.

That is the web site I use to find Mass when I am off wandering around.
I know of only one ship/cruise that has Mass on board and that is the one from LA to Mexico and back. (No Rick, that is in California, not where you live,) I am told that that vessel has Mass every morning before breakfast.
So, there is a good question:
Does anyone else know of cruises that have Mass on board?
