Friends,
While reading in another section the replies to a question about annointing of the sick, I saw a mention of something called a "healing Mass".
Can someone tell me under what circumstances these Masses take place? How would I find one? What is the difference between this Mass and the normal Sunday or weekday Mass?
Thanks,
Ruth

It is a normal mass except that the readings and prayers may be different, with an emphasis on healing and acceptance. Often special prayers may be offered for the sick, and the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may be offered after the homily.
Masses may be offered for many purposes (for peace, in thanksgiving, as memorials, for a good harvest, for protection during hurricane season, etc.). These are called "votive" masses and may be offered on almost any weekday. Some votive masses can be offered on certain Sundays, but generally a Sunday liturgy uses the readings of the day even if it is a healing mass.
Some parishes offer them monthly, some annually, some not at all. You can call your parish office to see if there is one scheduled nearby, or check your bulletin or parish Catholic newspaper.

Hi Ruth-
At my church, they don't call it a "healing Mass", but at the Friday noon weekday Mass they do have Anointing of the Sick after the homily instead of the prayers of the faithful. The anointings and accompanying prayers are very beautiful.
