This year Christmas is on a Monday. At the local parish, there is a regular 9:30 am Mass, 4th Sunday of Advent, and then there is Christmas Eve Mass at 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm. There is also Midnight Mass and 9:30 am Mass on Christmas Day.

Which Masses are obligatory? Should I go on Sunday morning if I go to one of the other Masses? Is Christmas Day Mass obligatory?

I'm sure there is not such confusion in other years.

Ruthie

Hi Ruthie,

You should go to a 4th Sunday of Advent Mass (9:30 am in your case) and a Christmas Mass (either one of the Christmas Eve masses or the Midnight Mass or the Christmas Day Mass).  I personally love the Midnight Mass!

Hope this helps!

Katy

You should attend Sunday mass as usual, either the Saturday evening vigil, or the Sunday morning mass, and also attend mass for Christmas either at the vigil (Sunday evening), at midnight mass, or during the day on Christmas.

My pastor has been reminding us all week.  NO TWO-FERS.  I went ot 9:30am Advent Sunday and 5:00 Xmas eve.  I received communion both times, assuming that I was "in the next day".  This was my first Mass on any holiday.  Yay for me!

Love,

Laura

Laura, I can’t let your post go without comment. I know the difficulties you have faced in your return, and I have to agree: “Yay for you!” You don’t mention any comments by your husband, either. That is a double “yay!” A day to remember.

David

And you know what, he didn't make any comments.  And, I enjoyed Christmas day all day, didn't cry once, and even played with my niece until my muscles got sore.  The Lord was truly kind to me.

Love, Laura
