Hi all!

My dad has agreed to take me to a Vigil mass this Saturday.  but, he also said (among other things) that he's nervous because he doesn't know about the mass.

What should I do to introduce him to the mass, and the Eucharist?

Hi Brad, if at all possible, I would try to get the book Catholicism for Dummies and let your father read the section on the mass.  It explains line by line what is going on.  It will help you and your father know what to expect, what to do when others are standing, kneeling, etc.  If he reads enough he will begin to understand that nearly all the mass is prayer and scripture reading.  Good luck!

You can find some good introductory information on the Mass here. This website has the full text of the Mass along with some explanations, when to stand, sit or kneel, etc. You can also find on online introductory video on the Mass here.

Perhaps these writings of mine would be helpful for that purpose. They are short, introductory-type papers:

A Fictional Dialogue on the Real Presence in the Eucharist

A Fictional Dialogue on "Vain Repetition," the Mass, and the Liturgy

I'm just wondering if your Dad is reading about the mass?  Does he have questions or comments, etc.  Maybe he would like to read some of the forum, unless you would rather keep it to yourself for privacy issues.  How is your Mom taking it?  Keep in touch!
