This very interesting article from Zenit was published right around the time that the old forum software crashed and the new software was being initiated. I noticed this article at the time, but then lost track of it. I'd like to recommend it to you now.
We've often discussed bible translations, reading selections, etc., as used in the Church. Father Edward McNamara, professor of liturgy at the Regina Apostolorum university, answered a question last October about translations, and how and why the Church selects texts for readings. It is a very interesting article.
You can read the entire article here. It also includes a section on the reasons the priest is supposed to receive communion before the rest of the congregation.

| The article recommended a Book by Scott Hahn about the connection between the litgurgy and development of scripture. I have read a couple things by him and find it written at a level a little too deep for bedtime reading. Is there an author that covers the same stuff but at a slightly more basic level?

I had the same situation with Hahn's writings. They are like the Pope's in that regard. Both individuals write in a very thought stimulating style. I find myself backing up and saying to myself, "What did he say?" and then re-reading the material. On the other hand, both authors write in a manner that allows the reader to not only follow what is written but they provide many opportunities to do some thinking and forming some conclusions. I guess that is called a challenge!

I enjoy reading challenging literature, especially when it is based on our faith. I read something not too long ago by Scott Hahn on the Eucharist and found it very thought provoking and enlightening. For the first time I understood what the verse in Hebrews 10:26 means. I have also watched his series "Lord Have Mercy" on EWTN and find it very informative and eye-opening.
After having had to read dry, dull historical literature for my Degree in History, written by boring PH'D's in History, who seem only to be writing to other Professors and not the general public, I find it refreshing to read books on Catholic theology, written to awaken faith in God in the heart and soul of the Christian, and encourage them to practice their faith more deeply. Now my English professor of former days would say that sentence is far too long!

You got that right! Been there, done that and that is exactly how the grad school game works! Then later the material is re-written for "public" consumption.
