Is it ok (or even encouraged or favorable) to set your weekly offering aside if you plan on visiting a different parish or being out of town for the week? Or is it a lot better if somehow you send your parish your offering so they can have as many resources as possible to make the budget? If you plan on being out of town is it ok to just give two offerings worth the next week, or should you find a way to mail or drop off the money during the week? And if it is ok to wait a week, how many would it start to seem like you were not taking it serious enough?

| If I were giving weekly I'd probably mail it in to the office.

| Situations are different. My guess is that your own assessment of the needs of your parish and your own resources (or opportunities) will resolve the problem for you. (Our small parish is not effected much by the financial support decisions of individual families. However, I think that a few of us pay in advance if we are to be away.) Some families' incomes are weekly and some are monthly. I suppose that effects decisions of this nature. Sometimes, when away for a week or two, we miss the "second collections" but usually we can plan ahead for those. Best wishes.

Your obligation is to support your own parish, regardless of where you attend mass. Whether you attend a neighboring parish because the time is more convenient, or a different church while on vacation, your own parish deserves your primary contribution. It is they who will provide sacramental services, baptize your children, provide religious education, and bury your loved ones. Your contributions help to fix the roof, replace the air conditioner, and pay the salaries of the priest and other staff members. This is your parish. If you regularly attend a different parish and plan to receive sacramental services there, you should register there and begin making your primary contributions there.
It is customary to put something in the collection basket when you visit a different church, but this should be in addition to and not instead of what you normally give at your parish.
I contribute to my church by mail. (Actually, I have it set up on an automatic payment from my bank.)
It doesn't matter whether you give in advance or after the fact, or arrange weekly/biweekly/monthly payments while you're on vacation. Church budgets are made on an annual basis so if they're a little over this month and a little under next month, it won't really matter. If you are wealthy enough that it would matter to the annual budget, chances are the pastor knows where you live and will make sure you have the opportunity to contribute on a timely basis!
