Is there such a thing as a certificate in Catholic apologetics?  Does anyone know of an online program?

Interesting question!  I've not heard of anywhere that does that, but I would be interested also.

Maybe someone will help us:P

Love & prayers my dear

To the best of my knowledge, all of the training programs around here are done by various members of the bishop's staff or locally but with his approval or out at the monastery.

Hi Betty,

One place that we have heard good things about is Catholic Distance University.  All that I Know of in our diocese is the Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry which doesn't have much in the way of defending the faith.  I'm very sad today.  Our oldes son is leaving for Ireland.  :(  Oh well, he'll be back in December, I hope!!

How I relate to this part of your post...  Both our girls just left for college.  The house is like an empty tomb and I cannot go in their rooms without crying.  The depth of my sorrow has taken me by surprise.  And yet, as you say, I know they're coming back...  Still, they're not HERE!  (Nor should they be, but rational thinking doesn't assuage how much I miss them.)

The closest thing would be Catechist Certification.  Every diocese offers a certification process leading to Basic and Master Catechist Certification.  Some also have other levels such as Primary or Introductory, and some have grade-leven certifications for religion teachers.

Check with your diocese's Office of Religious Education for details.

We saw him off at the airport and he is on his way to Boston as I write, for a connecting flight to Dublin.  We plan to visit him in October.  Our youngest was happy when we arrived home from the airport to find his passport in the mailbox.  Erin Go Bragh!

Jill,
I still remember the day Jon left for college his freshman year.  My dh and I just came home, sat on the couch and cried.  Within a few days (although still missing him) we were commenting on how nice and quiet the house was.:D  Each phase has it's pluses and minuses!

Rick,
Thanks for the info on Catechist training.  I have heard of that and will look into it.  :)

PD

I'm so sorry that your sad, I know how it feels.  When my youngest left 2yrs ago (he's still at home with us in the summer) everyone thought it was going to be so hard on me.  All I could think about was that when his brother died, he was going to be gone for a long time, Then Seattle did not seem so far away.  I still could call him on his cell.

I keep fighting the urge to sadness that summer is going to be over before I know it.  But we are all going on a trip together before the kids go back to school in Seattle.  so I'm trying to focus on having them all to our selves for 10 days on vacation.:D

I'll pray for your boys safty on his trip.

Jill;  I know that empty quiet house is so very quiet at first.  but there are some up sides too.  My husband and I have been raising children since we were 21.  We had forgotten all about caring for us.   now, by the grace of God, we have discovered each other again and it has done wonders to our relationship.:D  We can now realize, why we got married in the first place, and it's renewed our bond.

It will get better.  This is the first year that it felt awkward to have him home instead of the other way around.

Betty

Deb

We've been given a free condo at Kona on the big island Hawaii for 10days, by my dh's aunt.  She wants us to see if the weather over their helps my illness as much as it help her.  she has a chronic Pain illness also, so she and her dh live over their during the cold damp oregon winters and then live here in the summer time.

We've not been on a big family vacation since Ryans death 5 yrs ago.  My husband, son and his young lady almost fiance & I are leaving on the 6th and coming back on the 11th of Sept.  And then I'm also excited and hoping that when our dear David is up here in my neck of the wood, that he & I can get together and have lunch, dinner, go to mass or to the grotto in Portland and visit one another.  So I have two wonderful thing's coming up that I'm very much looking forward to.  On good days, I feel great and feel very secure on my ability to go and try to travel.  But then I'll have a few bad days and I become very afraid and doubtful.  I've been praying alot about it and I'm just going to trust God that everything is going to be fine and if I get there and I'm not able to go and site see with the fam, then I will stay at the condo and sit out by the pool, read, pray, etc.  they just redid the lani and planted all new flowering plants and shrubs, so it sounds like a wonderful place to pray every morning anyway.:D

God Bless my dear

Betty

Betty it sounds wonderful - I'm so glad you're getting that opportunity to be with your family in such a restful and beautiful setting.  I will pray for your safe trip and cessation of pain.  Just don't be getting on any surfboards, okay?

Oh, thank you Marsha

Your such a dear lady.  thank you for the prayers, flying makes me nervous, I don't drink anymore so I'll have to do as I did the last time on a plane.

Break out the rosary!  My sons not that wild about flying either.  He normally is the one that makes sure I'm praying.

I already put my rosary cd on my mp 3 so I can just shut the world out and concentrate on the mysteries.

Betty

Oh, thank you PD.  I'm starting to get packed, when shopping today for some last minute details.  We don't leave until next thursday, but it's going to go by quick.  I still have to make sure my elderly friend has all her needs taken care of, my sister is going to look in on her for me.  I just want to make sure I have her all set to go without me.  I'll still worry about her the whole time I'm gone, but I had my cell checked to make sure I can use it in Hawaii and I can so I'll be calling her daily to check on her.

Ireland?  Wow! that sounds so exotic.  There will be some great christian historical sites there to visit.  I've already checked, at the condo we're staying in, there's a small catholic church within walking distance for me.  :D:D:D:D:D  If it's that close, I can stop in daily to pray, there's also a historical catholic church called the painted church with the bible stories painted on the walls as mirrals.  I gues it was due to laungage barrier at the time for the misinaries.  Exciting stuff!

God Bless hon, I'll still be around for a few days.

Betty

I also wanted to mention that my Father announced that we are adding an apologetics course with a new instructor this fall.  I'm praying that I can attend and choose at least one of the new fall bible studies or similar events for further study for the fall & winter programs.  I'm really going to try hard, My health has interfered with the last couple of years classes and I'm going to fight this time even harder.

"Please Lord let me attend and learn more about you & your word"  AMEN!

Betty
