Does anyone know who the Cukierski's are? I viewed there site today, http://www.cukierski.net and saw a ton of "relics" and "sacramentals" you could purchase. I realize there are legitimate relics and sacramentals, but I know nothing about this group. We Protestants are often accused of scamming the ignorant with our constant money appeals and offerings, but I've never seen anything like the stuff I get from Catholics ever since I have been inquiring the faith. So much of it is pure junk.
I'll admit, I'm super suspicious of groups like the Cukierski's. They look like professional hucksters, but then they seem to have approval from Rome.
Am I just blowing smoke...and not Holy Smoke...or are these people for real?
Thanks
Rich

Rich, this site seems a contradiction to the faith. They claim to be “in full obedience to the Magisterium of Holy Mother Church,” and yet in defiance of the Church’s theology and law they are selling what they claim to be relics and sacramentals (blessed objects), which desecrates them through the sin of simony (see Catechism of the Catholic Church §2121). Yes, I think the term “huckster” is appropriate.

Thanks David. I thought they were phoney. My mailbox, both online and snail mail get this kind of stuff daily. Trying to weed my way throught the bunch is a real game. I have gathered some attractive rosaries along the way but haven't contributed to any one. I just don't trust them.
Catholic hucksters outnumber the Protestant hucksters at least 3 to 1 in my mailbox. I know that's because the RCC church is larger but it sure gives ya'll a black eye.

The opposite is the case in my mailbox. I get thinly-disguised "messages" all the time that are really begging for money, and nearly all of them call themselves "Christian". They're not selling relics and sacramentals, they're selling books, tapes, CD's, prayers, prayer cards, healings, and anything else you can imagine. I have most of them automatically blocked by my spam-blocker, but they are definitely there.

| Ya think maybe they know their target audience somehow, so they (all the religions) send stuff to try and convert you and raid your purse at the same time?

I see no attempt to convert. Most of the groups I hear from are promoting traditional marriage and families, or "generic" Christian messages. They claim to lobby congress and state legislatures, and sell books, etc., promoting conservative Christian causes. They are not Catholic, but promote Catholic-friendly values. It really wouldn't bother me except that it seems every message indicates that all it takes for success is my contribution, so it's my own personal fault that we have gay marriage, abortion, cohabitation, etc. (I've never seen one claim to be against contraception, though!)

Yeah...I pick up ulterior motives from all of them. Mostly, they want my money, and if I don't give, bad things might happen to me. It's like those confounded emails that send me a blessing, then threaten that dire things are going to happen to me unless I pass it on to 10 other people. And then and only then will whatever blessing or luck promised will come to pass. Give me a break. (.......yes...I've been suckered in on those too)
I guess it's the old wheat and weeds thing. Me thinks there are more weeds than wheat.
