| I am wondering if it is all right to change the word "us" to "me" in the praying of the of the Holy Rosary (or other similar prayers) when we are praying them alone - not in a group setting. I sometimes want to say, "Pray for me, now and at the hour of my death" instead of the usual "Pray for us, now and at the hour of our death." I am wondering if this is permissible? Yours in Christ, Bonita

When you pray privately, you may essentially do whatever you like. Prayer is a personal experience. The words of the various prayers should serve as guides on how to construct personal prayer, as much as words we simply recite. Feel free to make the prayer your own.
When we pray in a group, of course, it's important that we use the same "script" so the exact words are much more important. But private, personal prayer should be exactly that ... private AND personal.

Bonita, one of the televised rosaries on EWTN uses the first person singular during the initial prayers because it represents a girl praying alone. Also, because of my own solitary situation (wife is in a nursing home), I regularly say “I,” “me” and “my” instead of “we,” “us” and “our” in my prayers — with the exception of the Our Father, which I keep in the plural because I mentally include my wife and friends in that particular prayer, even when they are absent.
