I am praying that my kids will follow me to the Catholic church. My son was just accepted for training as a chalice bearer at his new church-(the breakaway Anglican church) My husband will follow if the kids come..Is there a saint that would be particularly responsive to this prayer? Could I pray the rosary for this? If so where do people usually put in personal requests while saying the rosary?

St. Thomas More was Chancellor of Great Britain when King Henry VIII broke from the Catholic Church and formed the Church of England.  He was killed when he refused to swear allegiance to the king rather than to the Church.

But I think in your case, the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales might be more appropriate.  Many of them are converts; all were martyred for the "crime" of being Catholic.

St. Anne Line in particular was a convert to the Catholic faith at a time when it was a crime to even be Catholic.  She was hanged for the "crime" of harboring priests.  I would think she would fully understand and assist in any way she could.

Yes, you can dedicate the rosary for this purpose.  Mention your intention at the beginning of the rosary, and think of it as you pray.  You may also offer your masses and any sacrifices you make.

I always think of St. Augustine's mother, St. Monica when praying for children to follow us in our faith.  Imagine praying for 17 years for your child to enter the Church.  I dare say, I may have given up by that time.  {sigh} Yet another reason I'm no saint ;)

Hello Kim,

Ever since Rick said many months ago that the Rosary is a peronal prayer, I have been led to pray the Rosary very personally.  When I say the Apostle's Creed, I pray "and Jesus Christ our Lord, My Lord."  During the first Lord's Prayer, I say "My Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done in my life, as it is in Heaven.  Give me this day my daily bread, and forgive me of my trespassess, as I forgive those who trespass against me.  And lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil.  Amen."

For the the first three Hail Marys, I say "Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for me, a sinner, now and at the hour of my death.  Amen"

For the Fatima Prayer I say, "Oh my Jesus, forgive me of my sins and save me from the fires of Hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy."

At the beginning of each Mystery, I will first say the Mystery, then pray a short prayer to Jesus, our Heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit or Mary.  It depends upon what the particular mystery is as to whom I shall pray to.  For example, if the mystery of "The descent of the Holy Spirit," I will pray to the Holy Spirit, often for guidance, wisdom, comfort, etc.  If the mystery is the "Crucifixion," I will pray to Jesus.  If the mystery is the "Assumption" of Mary or the Annunciation,"  I will pray to Mary.  Often, I will include praying to our Heavenly Father during any of the mysteries.

Next, I offer up each decade to a particular person or for a particular situation.  I offer up a decade almost daily for my son, my husband, the priest at our local parish, and Mother Angelica, and my other family members.  If I pray the Rosary more than once in a day, or say, perhaps the mysteries of Light and the Joyous Mysteries, then I will devote each decade for other concerns.  Often, I have devoted a decade for our CHN Forum and for the Journey Home apostolate.  When saying the Lord's Prayer, the Hail Mary, and the Fatima Prayer for a particular person, I will say their name.  When I attend Eucharist Adoration, I make it a point to pray all of the mysteries, Joyous, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.  I have found this to be such a blessed time of prayer and have decided to go to Adoration at least once a week.

When I pray the Salve Regina, I personalize it saying "my life, my sweetness, my hope.  To thee, do I cry...To thee do I send up...thine eyes of mercy toward me...show unto me the blessed fruit of thy womb...Pray for me...that I amy be made worthy..."

The same goes for the prayer following, "O God, whose only begotten Son....who has purchased for me..."  etc.

At the end, I pray the Lord' Prayer for Pope Benedict XVI and say a Hail Mary for him.  Often I follow with two more Hail Marys for people that I have a special burden for.

I also say the Memorare, although I notice not all who say the Rosary do.  Again, I personalize it, while praying alone.  "To you do I come, before you I stand...

The last thing I pray is the Apostle's Creed (a second time), so that I am beginning and ending with the doctrines of my Christian faith.  This helps to remind me daily of what I believe, and professing it is, I think, very pleasing to God.  I never knew the Apostle's Creed all my Protestant life.  It has only been since desiring to be Catholic, that I have learned and prayed it.  What a encouragement in my Christian faith it has become for me!

I hope this has helped you.  One of the profitable things which I have learned as a Protestant is to be personal in my prayer.  So personalizing the Rosary came very natural to me.

God Bless You,

Darlene
