| A friend's mother is seriously ill and has asked for some prayers to say. I've been asked if there are such prayers they could access on-line. Does anyone know of a website? I saw prayers on the EWTN website, but none are specifically directed to illness, although the Prayer of Abandonment looked appropriate. This woman used to be Catholic as a teenager, but is a strong Baptist now. Of course, she's praying for restoration of health. I know physical healing isn't the focus in Catholicism, which I totally understand and agree with. On the other hand, I'd really like to be able to send her some prayers, since she is again looking to the Church for help. Can anyone direct me to some good prayers on-line for those who are sick?

The Church does indeed pray for physical healing, but we recognize it does not always happen. Healing always takes place, but it may be physical, spiritual, or psychological, according to God's plan.
I typed "prayers for the sick" on Google and got 1,750,000 hits!
Catholic Online has prayers for the sick here.
You'll find some Greek Orthodox prayers here.
This web site features excellent pictures of cemetary angels, and also links to several pages of Catholic prayers for the sick.
You'll find some Anglican prayers here.
Here's a prayer from St. Charles Borromeo in Picayune, MS, one of the best Catholic web sites on the Internet.
Catholic Forum has a list of patron saints by topic. You can look for the disease and find the patrons for that disease, and then look for prayers to that saint.
A visit to any Catholic religious store will let you select from dozens or hundreds of holy cards of various patron saints dealing with particular forms of illness, as well as booklets with lots of prayers, novenas, etc. Or you can look for them online at places like GetFed.
That should get you started!
You can also suggest a visit and an anointing by a priest. Perhaps her relationship with the Church can be healed as well.

| Thank you for the help, Rick. I did a search but wasn't sure about some of the sites. I wanted to send Catholic prayers but had to find some that didn't mention anything "controversial." I much appreciate these links.

We all pray to the same God. There is no reason not to use an Anglican or Greek Orthodox prayer. There are other good sites as well, but the ones I gave you should provide hundreds of prayer ideas. And there's also no reason you can't write your own, or pray spontaneously. That's what she would do as a Baptist.

| That goes without saying. However, if a person wants some written prayers, it's important to know who is writing them. Because of her background, and because I'm not Catholic, I needed some help. I did find some good ones that I hope will be a blessing to her. Thank you!
