During Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Turkey, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I made an "unexpected ecumenical proposal" to the pope, which he said Benedict received "very favorably". This actually could be of stunning importance in the relationship between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
You can read the interview with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, as reproduced by Zenit, here.
I hate to jump to conclusions and get too excited too far in advance, but this could be a very big deal in the relations between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches. It is something that I will be watching with great interest in the weeks, months, and years to come.
Keep in mind that at this point, the Catholic Church allows full intercommunion with the Orthodox. It is the Orthodox Church that does not reciprocate. It would be highly significant if intercommunion privileges were granted by the Orthodox, and a significant and major step on the road to full reunification.
I know most of us deal on a day to day basis with Protestants and Evangelicals, but individual Protestant denominations are barely a "blip on the radar" compared to the Orthodox when the entire Christian world is considered.
Please keep Christian Unity in your prayers, especially at the time of the year when we all celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Rick:
I've been following these articles with hopeful antisipation too. I'll never give up hope that we cannot be joined as one.
The unity can only be expected one christian group at a time. The CH Network has provided a fruitful & supportive environment for pastor's & christrian faithful who may be have studied theirselves back to the original truth of the faith & scripture.
When I pray for unity and try to imagine what it would be like, All I can see is an enormous, devoted group of christians that our Lord can finally say that everyone will know we are his because we are as One, As he & the Father.
It would completely change the face of the earth.
What a beautiful image
I'll be praying
Betty

I'm just wondering...what's the view of an Orthodox Christian towards Catholics? Are they open to the union of Catholics and Orthodox? Are we Catholics more open to this union? I know I am . The rift was sort of started politically, right? But now? Is it still politically? Or just pride?
