I recently learned that abortion is going down in many arts of the country, but I live in an area where they actually increase every year and they are increasing the amount of tax payer money used to help people get abortions. Now I know it is a sin to help anyone procure an aboriton. In fact it is a sin that excommunicates. But in what sense if any am I contributing to abortion since some of my money is going toward helping people have aboritons. Is it a 'render unto Ceasar' type thing where I am simply giving to the governement what is theirs and they are accountable for it? Would there ever come a point where Catholics should just stop paying taxes so as to not contribute?

Do you think the government would allow this? I don’t. Not that it shouldn’t, but it won’t because of recent precedent. Compare, for instance, what it is doing to pharmacists who conscientiously object to selling “chemical abortion” drugs such as Plan B.

Under such circumstances, there is no need to worry about sinning by paying your taxes. It is not a matter of your individual will, but of the law requiring you to pay taxes. If you wish, yes, you can invoke your previous sentence, “Is it a 'render unto Ceasar' type thing where I am simply giving to the governement what is theirs and they are accountable for it?” The government has a legal right to your tax money, regardless of its moral standing to use it in a manner you do not approve.
