Democrat presidential candidate John Edwards has decided to put an anti-Catholic in charge of his campaign blog.
Amanda Marcotte, who goes by the name Pandagon, recently wrote an online article which includes the phrase, " ... the church is ruthlessly stupid in ignoring the reality of modern contraceptive use." This is one of the mildest statements she makes.
Nor is the Church's stance on birth control her only anti-Catholic diatribe. She says the Catholic teaching on "Limbo" (which, by the way, isn't really a Catholic teaching at all) is " ... wielded by everyday Catholics to explain where the souls of unborn babies go, which is just an extra way to guilt trip women who have abortions. But it’s sort of a balancing act, as far as I can tell, because as most people understand it, unbaptized children go to limbo but when Jesus returns, they all get to go to heaven. So it’s a way to guilt trip women who have abortions without casting god as such an uncruel monster as to throw souls into hell that never even had a shot at sinning. So that’s limbo: it sucks enough to make women feel guilty about abortion, but it doesn’t suck so much as to run people off." Apparently the only reason for the Catholic Church in her opinion is to keep women barefoot and pregnant.
Kathryn Jean Lopez of the National Review Online has a commentary on the issue here. Marcotte's rant is divided in two parts. Part One is here, and part two is here. WARNING: It is laced with profanity, sexual references, and blasphemy, the worst of which is included in Lopez's article. She calls the Incarnation "ancient mythology" in one of her milder blasphemous statements.
She has a single sentence on Protestants who oppose abortion as well, so her hatred is not just directed at Catholics.
And this is who John Edwards has chosen to hire. It certainly guarantees that he will not be getting my vote.

I'm a little confused - if you hate the Church's teachings and beliefs (like some of the people quoted in the blog), you have total disgust for the Church, and you are an obviously superior, enlightened person, why would you call yourself Catholic or have any interest in the Church? I read a comment from "phinky" on the blog that suggested the Episcopalian Church as an alternative for disaffected Catholics because the "Church won't change its beliefs when we tell it to". Didn't Cajun Rick post recently that the Catholic Church is growing in the U.S. and the Episcopalian Church isn't?
P.S. Her ex-fiancee is one lucky guy!!!!

That is correct. In fact, there's an article in this week's Time magazine about an Anglican bishop from Nigeria who is "adopting" parishes in the United States that are leaving the Episcopal church over the ordination of an openly gay bishop, and the approval in the United States of a woman as head bishop, and of homosexual unions. By affiliating with the Nigerian bishop, they remain in the Anglican communion but are no longer part of the U. S. Episcopal church. According to the article (and we all know how reliable the media is when reporting religious news), he is very near taking his country out of the Anglican communion, which would be an official schism.
Disaffected Anglicans/Episcopalians in other parts of the U.S. may not have such a choice. I think we can expect some of them to look to the Catholic Church, and others to look to the Lutheran church.
Again according to the article, there are only 2.2 million Episcopalians remaining in the U.S. so don't expect a big flood of converts, but there will probably be more Episcopalians joining the Catholic Church than the other way around.

Although I don't like people to bash the Lord's church I was filled with pity more than angered by the posts in that blog, because it is obvious to me that they have no idea what they are talking about. Even the picture of the worn out mama cavewoman with her overload of children showed how warped people are to the joy and sanctity of pro-creating life! I'm sure not a single believing Catholic woman would really look like that. I look like that because I don't have enough kids. And a man with a bunch of kids is most likely not cavemanning his woman, so it was just stupid.
And the responses showed so much ignorance, that they just made no sense. I thought it was sad, and I felt so badly for them, that they were such angry people. I wished they could learn the things in their hearts that I have learned in mine. They're really missing out. I just felt sorry for them.
Love, Laura
