What's next? QE II ditching the changing of her guard at Buckingham Palace?
Take a look at this:
http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2008/03/07/head_of_popes_bodyguard_team_resigns/1804/
Though it won't be the end of the world, but it left me wondering what's next on the traditional chopping block? I'm sure the Pope isn't just guarded by men in uniforms designed by Michaelangelo and holding spikes as weapons. Well, we'll never know the answer to this question, and just as well.
Gotta love these new smileys, grouchies, "et al"!

Consider the source. This is UPI reporting an article from the Washington Post, neither of which is considered a good source of Catholic information.
Let's wait and see what the official responses are. It may well be that due to terrorist threats, Cardinal Bertone no longer feels the Swiss Guard are adequately equipped to guard a modern head of state. I assure you, the guard you see at Buckingham Palace is not the only security force in place.

I have no doubt you're batting 1.000 on that Rick, I just thought I'd have some fun with it. I'm awfully sure the "Pope's and Queen's own" -- the real "own" pack a lot of heat and very discretely. But I was sorely, very sorely tempted, to jokingly ask if those boyos under the beaver pelts weren't the last defense of the British Empire, much like the women's brigade that "defended" the Winter Palace against the Bolshies.
Now, I just can't wait for the moment when I first get to use the "paper bag" embarrassment emoticon! No doubt I'll find a "handy victim." Maybe myself. I did see one that resembled me: the little chatty guy. Okay, I'll admit it.
